@jahc Someone posted some numbers for distributed compiling on OS4, and IMHO it looked terrible - there was massive overhead & the speed gain per computer was very small & diminishing with each extra computer. IIRC the maximum speed-up was on the order of 2x using many computers, and so not worth the bother IMHO.
Whenever something starts from zero it is a climb to 1 at times.
In anycase my idea of networking in that regard was you simply start your project and have one machine do odd and another do even... the frames from both could be saved in a shared directory...
lots of options there in any case...
but upon your research in that area was there any speculation/theory/resolve about what was causing these outcomes?

I should hopefully be getting my Sam Flex 667 soon Was gonna go with the 733 but I've been snake bitten with over clocking in the past..call me paranoid ..or maybe I'm juts getting older..lol
my 677mhz lives in an antistatic bag... I got the 800mhz version so the first would be a back up, I must say the 677mhz performed flawlessly... then again, the 800mhz is even smoother...
Italy is quite a way from NZ so I didn't want to be without a SAM in the eventual situation when something does fail...
But to be honest it won't be the last SAM I get anyway, so it probably didn't matter in the end...
anyway, great stuff! Amount of SAM users are growing all the time...

I wish I could! trust me LOL...if only my wife had the same outlook as you Slayer
bear in mind that os4 supports distributed compiling.. so you could get a very big boost using two sams. thank ssolie for that. :)
I am sorry, but I am no fond at all to what exactly distrubuted compiling means... Do you imply that if connect two OS4 machines (eg two SAMs) I can use their sum Mhz, or RAM when using the system (e.g playing some games, browsing the internet etc)?
Mate that is exactly what i did. When my A1 (then x 2) died and I was virtually Amigaless for months I thought my life was over -:)
So I bought myself 2 x SAMs. One I use as a serious nmachine, the other for mucking around with OS4 and Linux but I ain't going to be Amigaless again if I can help it.
BTW my original A1 lasted 7 years or so (from whenever they were released), I replaced that with another. I suspect they were both killed by power spikes frequent in our area because of massive building expansion happening around us.
SAM ain't perfect and doesn't have the grunt of A!s but it is enough to get more people involved and set a baseline for expansion.

If power spikes are frequent in your area then you should get a UPS. In case of a power shortage it should hopefully also give you enough time to save your work and shutdown your computer properly.

I remember the feeling! Very Nice! Enjoy!
@acefnq
Great reason to get 2 x SAMs lol, not so good on the A1 demise but we all have a collection of dead Amiga parts... R.I.P
@all
Just to get the ball rolling too in a more direct way I emailed ACube a few days ago and said, put me down for the next model up please, I'd like to be one of the first to sport the new model...I'll pay for it now and won't worry about a 2-3 month wait... no reply so far, but that is okay... very much enjoying the SAM Flex in the meantime...
