Amiga 4000 Prometheus Card and Voodoo Card Help Please :-) [SOLVED]
Just can't stay away

A friend of mine is trying to install the Prometheus Card and Voodoo on his Amiga 4000 without luck.. He can install the Prometheus Driver ( from the Prometheus original cd ). He has installed also the Picasso96 2.1b and everything is fine. The problem arrives when he tries to configure the screenmode on Picasso96Mode. When the Amiga 4000 boots up everything is fine, the workbench appears on Pal ScreenMode and on the LCD Monitor the Led light turns from yellow light to green light ( this means that the monitor receives the signal ).
When he launches Picasso96Mode he sees the list of the all video mode available, ready to be configured and tested
But when he tries to edit a video mode everything freezes, there is no way to prevent this..
Sometimes the system doesn't freeze but the LCD screen is totally black..
Only one time he was able to see the workbench on the LCD screen, but after he performed a reset ( as Picasso96Mode required it ), the workbench appeared again on the Pal Screen..
He tried two Voodoo Boards on the Amiga and on a PC. On PC they worked without problems, on the Amiga not..
He can see the Prometheus Board listed on the available card on the Early Startup Menu of Amiga OS and he can see the Prometheus and Voodoo Card listed as PCI device with the utility of Prometheus.
Maybe there is something that he is missing ?
Any idea ?

Thanks

This was exactly the same setup I had on my classic (until I broke off a small resistor thingee on the VooDoo and it stopped working) PPC.

I do remember doing quite a few things to get this sort of thing fixed but I can't remember the steps I took.

It did involve booting with no startup and mucking around with stuff. I did get to edit it however. I would have thought with an 030 you'd be sweet but I know on the 060 at times you need to disable the instruction cache otherwise software does freeze.

Has he attached the board etc?

I really don't know what to say, infact why did I reply

heh, good luck!

I have an Amiga 4000 in a Power Tower with a Prometheus Card in with Voodoo 3 card but needed a 040 card for it to work.

Also had to change version of 040 Library but forget what version I am using but will have a look when I have time.

Hope this helps!

my friend was able to solve the problem

That's what he learned from Prometheus docs and with your hint he solved the problem :

Quote:

Prometheus is a transparent Zorro III to PCI bridge. Each Zorro III
transaction is translated to the appropriate PCI transaction. Transparency
means that no special data read/write functions for PCI cards are needed.
The cards can be treated as CPU address areas of the Amiga system.
However, please pay attention to the CPU cache memory. AutoConfig
procedures of the AmigaOS automatically disable the CPU cache for the
address spaces taken by Prometheus. It is possible for MMU equipped CPUs,
so problems appear when we deal with a 68EC030 CPU which does not have a
MMU unit. In such cases, the cache memory can be flushed by the
CacheClearU() or better CacheClearE() function that can flush only data
cache.

so he used aminet and found this utility :

http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/CC1_20

using it, the Prometheus worked fine with Voodoo
