which resolution looks better on Amiga? I tried a 24" on my a1 years ago and it looked funny.. I dont know what the top res was, though.
Im aware of the various problems with DVI and this resolution on Sam, and the various things to try,but Im also aware of people who use it successfully..Im going to try it out. :) I might even use the next res down, 1650x whatever instead. Im mainly upgrading for the oontrast ratio anyway, the real estate will just be a bonus. If it doesn't work at al or just bady, Ill use it ont he Pc instead hehe.
All Monitors i have seen in shops have square Pixels (if used in native Resolution) => 1920x1080 Monitor is physically less high than a 1920x1200 Mionitor.
both modes are over the spec of the onboard DVI-D on the SAM, and for both i get "out of range"-errors from my monitor. VGA (DVI-A) is working in both modes, but the picture quality is bad.
I have a 24" Flatron W2452T on my Amigaone XEG3-800 and it works great. I had to add +RB to the end of the tooltype modes, but both resolutions work OK here.
I use a 22.5'' BenQ monitor @ 1920x1080 which has both HDMI (for my PS3 - true 1080P) and standard VGA and DVI inputs (for my PC / Amiga).
It looks/works great, nothing is squashed and it is great for programming, as you have so much space to work with. It was surprisingly cheap as well. The only downside were the speakers - they redefine the word "naff"!
Did you try using the higher res but increasing font size slightly? You might find you get a bit more space but still maintain readability.
That's more or less what I've done every time I've upgradrd my monitor size (okay that's maybe on twice ,...) double the res, increase font point by factor off 1.5. Sharper fonts you can still read.
Wide screen monitors are usually 16:10 aspect but now there have started to show up 16:9 monitors as well.
1920x1080 would be 16:9 with square pixels. 1920x1200 would be 16:10 with square pixels.
I would go for the slightly more squared 16:10 monitor unless you are going to feed it 1080 Full-HD material which obviously looks better on a true 16:9 display with 100% pixel-to-pixel matching.
Feeding 1080 to a 1200 screen requires scaling of course, which always looks worse than the native pixel resolution, and the aspect would be slightly warped.
And most importantly: Do not expect to EVER send it anything else than its native resolution from the computer, it always looks crap on an LCD monitor. Only exception is when playing movies which will be scaled no matter what...

Nope, but i?ll see what i can gain.
Problem with OWB remains, du to the higher font size the page itself will grow smaller (that is will scroll down out of sight again)

Most likely there is an option in the monitor to disable scaling for input from the hdmi-port. My 1920x1200 monitor dont even let me enable scaling for 1080p signals over hdmi.
This one seems to be getting good reviews, and is about the most I'd pay for a monitor. 23" viewable size.. 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 2ms refreshing.. its about 1cm higher than my 19" 1280x1024 monitor, but maybe 15cm wider... veeeeeeeery nice. I'm getting sick of running out of space! and I realise I'll have to use the +RB reduced blanking trick..
Anyway.. the connector is 15pin D-SUB or DVI-D (i want to use DVI on my Sam440ep 667mhz), and the video signal is Analog RGB, DVI........... should I take a risk and buy it? if it doesnt work.. my PC right next to it gets a new monitor. :)
However, my monitor (Eizo FlexScan HD 2441W) don't like anything below 60Hz without a huge "out of range" message in the middle of the picture that won't go away...

Here even 1600x1200 at 8bit has bandwidth problems on the SAMs M9.

Yes, that will happen, at 1920x1200 in 32Bit and hardware compositing on it takes the WB Screen, 2-3 small WB windows and 2 fullscreen Shells and the 64MB are full.

I'll rephrase.. some monitors have DVI, DVI-D, etc, and I dont know what the Sam is compatible with.. my question is: will this monitor that I'm planning on buying display ANY resolution? will it do at least 1280x1024? :) (i.e. is the Sam's DVI monitor port compatible with this monitors DVI port..)

Thanks. Yes, that will work. The SAM has a DVI-I port that supports DVI-D and DVI-A.
