Mail server for AmigaOS 3+ ?
Just popping in
Just popping in

See User information
Hi guys,

I've searched high and low and can't seem to find an answer to my question. Hopefully someone here will be able to help.

I'm interested in using an old A2000/x40 as a mail server, with SMTP and pop and/or IMAP. Is there anything around for AOS 3+ ?

I have seen that there is a version of apache floating around, which makes me thing that there'd be a sendmail/postfix equivalent...?

Any takers?

thanks

Sk

@Skinner

Perhaps a port of qmail?

The actual software doesn't bother me, as long as it provides the necessary service.

I can't seem to find a port of qmail for AOS classic either. I doubt that I'd have the skill to perform a port of qmail, sendmail, courier, postfix or any of the various flavours of mail services around (or certainly not within a useful timeframe, anyway).

I'd be prepared to run Linux or AmigaBSD and do it that way in a pinch, but I'd rather do it under 3.5 or similar.

My chances don't seem goo though.

... (this is where i pause for someone to jump in and point me to the AOS Classic packages) ...

thanks in advance

With that 040 (it its a full 040), CPU I would probably go:

http://www.debian.org/ports/m68k/

Much better I would think for a a more robust mail server.

Indeed I have running a SMTP daemon on my 030 (and now 040) 2000s for quite a long time. Configuration was not THAT straightforward but it worked for some years. It is the "AmigaSMTPd v0.69" and "SMTPpost v.104" by M.B. Smith - it should be one of those packages already mentioned.

Thanks @jabirulo and @cha05e90, not sure why i didn't search for smtpd... duh.

Oh i just realised those daemons won't support SSL/TLS... mmm, that does change things a little...

I really did want to use AmigaOS for the nostalgia factor, but Debian seems a much easier solution.. All the guff is running on a Linux server atm, but when I saw there's apache for Amiga I thought I might use some of my old hardware for a giggle. Am I mad?

Do you think POP3/IMAP/SMTP & Apache all running on a 2000/40 would be too much? It's got about 32-36MB of RAM.

Thanks again guys.
