JXFS Boot partition

Maybe i missed the news
Maybe i'm just plain stupid
Maybe i'm getting a flaky memory (brain-wise) or
maybe i'm just too old to remember anything

...but

has anyone tried lately to boot from a JXFS formatted partition?

All the threads i remember (see above) say that it isn't possible because the SLB isn't updated to work with JXFS (yet)

Well, i did ... and it worked..

I installed OS4.1 from the latest install CD (without any patches) to a blank HD naming it "Clean" and booted from it ... without problems i was able to see and finally work with OS4.1

Hmm, am i the first one to find out or did i just shovel some dirt on my skirt?

Thought that still wasn't possible.
If you missed the news, that makes two of us.

At the moment you cannot use JXFS for a boot partition.. this should change in the future

How did you do that ? Btw. Did you do hard reset or soft reset after installing it ? Which hardware ? Do you have a newer install CD than the rest of us ?

Nothing special, did it by mistake.

I needed a clean install from OS4.1 for betatesting and didn't realize that i had the partition formatted in JXFS.

For my hardware check the Extra Info in my Account

I have no special OS4.1 CD, just the one that came packaged from the resellers

edit: Hmm, maybe joerg put some code in to make it visible as SFS to the system while a new slb is being worked on?

Mine is
sbl_v2 1.16 (21.01.2006)
. Compile options: CD booting, HD booting, SFS support, Linux on RDB booting, TFTP boot support.

edit 2: Well, it could of course take the Kickstart files from the SFS partition (i still have around) and then switch (after the kickstart files were loaded in) to the JXFS partition to boot in Workbench...
Would that make sense?

Is there a file in the kickstart directory of the SFS partition called "BootDevice"?

If so, does it contain the name of the JXFS partition?

Interesting, but I wouldn't trust it, the partition could become corrupt. The quickfix did have an updated jxfs driver, but not to support booting.

Most likely you just booted Kickstart from a non-JXFS volume.

Nope, no "BootDevice" file there

I think so too.

I assume it boots the Kickstart files from the only SFS (bootable) partition there is and when Workbench comes up gets the files from the partition with the highest boot priority (the XFS partition in my case)

It's the same trick we did with OS1.3 and booting from a HD (edited Startup-Sequence on the boot floppy)

Exactly.
It's easy to check, just change the configuration name in the kicklayout file. If it changes in the SLB menu, it's the one which is loaded.
