I nearly always VNC the other way round, contrrolling my horiddly slow linux box from my AmigaOne using TwinVNC as the client on the OS4 side.

Hi,

I am not actively working on AmiVNC4 ; Daniel Westerberg made some changes in 2006, as shows the readme on os4depot.

AmiVNC4 is a pretty complex piece of software, which took me a lot of time to handcraft, because of the many different gfx modes to support (planar, chunky, all sorts of resolution / pixel depth / endianness, gfx api's) combined with the relatively slow cpu power.

I consider it to "basically work ok", it is missing some zlib compression to speed transfers over dialup lines or slow DSL, but I don't have that need.

The code is open source, and anyone can contribute (many claimed they would, or would do a better VNC server, which did not occur apart from DW's contributions).

Regards,

I think you have access to OS4 SDK and even more internal things. As such do you think it would be difficult to create a server that is a p96 monitor, i.e. instead of sending the frontmost screen it only send what is displayed on screen that are using this monitor (this have been done before, see avnc, unfortunately that does not work under OS4). As I see it, the advantage of this is that you can have multiple users at the same time on your Amiga : just launch a WB clone (YetAnotherDesk for example) on a dedicated screen of this monitor and you almost have a multiuser system, with remote access !!!)

Back to a quiet home... At last

Been wanting to have a go at this for a long time.
Always though it would be quite complex.
Until I'd seen Mikey had managed it,that is.

So buoyed by the theory if Mikey can do it, so can I, I have tried remoting to and from my A1200.

Used TightVNC on the PC.
Used AmiVNC4 and TwinVNC on the Miggy.

Was quite straightforward.
Could be very handy in the future.

Accessing the PC from the Miggy is a lot quicker than accessing the miggy from the PC.

I'm sure there are plenty here who could explain why.

Got a bit over ambitious and tried to control my Miggy by controlling the PC controlling my Miggy.

Not the best idea.
The relevant screens show on each machine, but that's the best I could manage.
The cursor bounces all over the show when trying to access the remote Miggy screen from the Miggy.

Had to be tried and you all know it.

Hi together!!

Is anybody out there, who has succesfully started AMIVNC on a SAMflex under OS 4.1?

I?ve tried to start it, but nothing happends.

Nothing means I can chance password, I can call the -h option, but nothing else. After entering the programmcall in CLI the tasks freeze until I press CTRL+C without any output.

Use it on a SamEP and 4.1.
Works well.

Haha, I did that VNC in VNC thing once, you get some freaky psychedlic colours, especially if one of you screens is different depth to the other.... Kind of hall of mirrors on acid.
