AmiSSL:

There is an amissl.library 1.1 (27.05.2001) in Devs/AmiSSL/Libs/
which is used by at least YAM2.4p1.
It doesn?t work out of the box anyway here, i had to add an
"Assign LIBS: DEVS:AmiSSL/Libs add" to user-startup to get SSL
encryption working at all.

Neither AWeb nor YAM found SSL in the first place, you can check
if AmiSSL is installed correctly here.

Problem is, this library from 2001 is obviously a 68k build and crashes
YAM from time to time, i don?t know if this was intended or just a plain
accident?

Unless someone comes up with a solution, i have to live with the crashes

Ohh yes, I forgot about this.

From a clean install of os4 final (on a blank drive) there was no Picasso96Settings copied/created in sys:/devs so I only had some basic resolutions.

I copied the file from my prerelease 4 install and it worked.

You should not use the old Picasso96Settings file any more. It is obsolete and omitted from OS4 Final. In later issues it might not even be supported.

Use the MODE tooltypes in the driver icon. The reason you only got a few basic modes is because when you were asked what your monitor could do, you said something simple like "800x600". If you had selected a higher resolution, you would have been given more choice.

Quite a few of the complaints here are not OS4 problems at all. Betatesters can "filter" the complaints (and test for reproducability) before submitting them to the system.

If you have a monitor mode that does not produce a usable output from a Radeon or Voodoo, then we would like to know about it in case it is a bug that needs to be fixed.

Please let me have full details of:
1) your monitor type (TFT/CRT/model, etc);
2) the mode(s) that do(es) not work properly;
3) the P96 settings for that scan rate that *DOES* work properly;
4) the model of video card.

I need to be able to enter your numbers and see what scan rates etc are produced, before I can be sure it's a bug.

You can PM me if you like, to avoid cluttering the thread.

No I replied 1600*1200 to that question. But the highest resolution in the tooltypes was 1280*1024. Using tooltypes for stuff like this is a really bad UI design and should be put in a user friendly preferences program in a future OS release. Tooltypes are about as user hostile as linux configuration files, only sligtly easier to find if you happen to have clue about what graphics card you have and what and where the monitor files are. Which a user shouldn't have to know. Even windows has a better screenmode selection UI model than OS4 and that's really scary.

But let's look at the real figures.

My monitor is an Acer AJ 17 (CRT, 4+ years old) - works fine also under Windows (it's attached to both the A1 and the Wintel machine by means of a KVM). The manual indicates these ranges for the scanning frequencies: 30-70 kHz horizontal, 50-120 Hz vertical.
My graphic board is a HIS Excalibur RADEON 9000 - worked fine ever since.

I normally use a 1024x768x32@86 mode, so I did not test other modes with the tooltypes method.
I could get it to work without any problem whatsoever with Picasso96Prefs at the first attempt. When the monitor tooltypes have been introduced, I tried to define the same mode but, as said, the picture would not be centered properly (now, with a grab, I could calculate that the leftmost 12 pixels are not shown), so I stuck to Picasso96Prefs. Note that if I lower the vertical frequency to 85 Hz the screen seems to be shown properly.
Here's a table showing some numbers about the three modes:

Thanks for those figures, they are what I was looking for.

It seems that you are operating right at the bounds of your monitor's capabilities, if reducing the refresh rate from 86 to 85 is enough to make a big difference.

I'll make up those modes myself and see if I can measure a difference between 85 and 86. Maybe there is an arithmetic problem in there somewhere.
