Hello,
Using an Amiga compatible hardware is verry great. Using a SAM and playing movies with a CPUmeter show to the user the limit of the SAM (often near 100% CPU).
Lots of months ago, Cobra said that the radeon video driver has been improved and 10% cpu speed has been gained, for the near AOS update.
But some questions:
- Having OpenGL (3D hardware supported) could allow lower CPU speed when playing movies (or not a link at all between).
- What other possible improvements could be made (or allready made on AOS4.1.1) for decreasing the CPU usage when playing movies with DVplayer or Mplayer ???
- A cache program, optimised player or video drivers, special libraries, compiled a special LINUX player or ati PC library,....
Also about activated the DVD playback in hardware possibility on the radeon chip (more or less advanced depending on the chip on radeon PCI card and M9 if I don't said mistakes).
- There are no existing library (or real player) from the linux world or player who came direclty from the ATI SDK (or other possibility) to give to the amiga range of computer the possibility to play with low CPU usage movies (at least DVD only or maybe more movies format) ????
For sure, It's a technical thread
It's to know if we will only wait after new powerfull hardware or other path could be used for improving movies players speed.
Yesterday reading the linux xine player (seemed to be portable-command line only and GUI with GTK) and s earching if playing DVD in hardware with radeon inside but It's a verry hard information to found.....
