I thought the update will come on a CD???

If it will be, then i dont think it will reach us this year, because no post office will be fast enough to deliver

I'm sure its going to be downloadable, but you have to burn the ISO to a CD. then install it from there

I can't wait for play with it but.... a 2009 release is hard imho, just 10 days left.

How do you know a 2009 release is "hard"?!? It could be virtually ready for all we know! They've had "release this year" as an goal for many months, so I would guess it will be released this year - but they are simply making use of the remaining time to polish it as much as possible.

If it does slip into 2010 (unlikely IMHO), then I would bet the first week of January.

Simon Archer said that there was only one issue outstanding, that was stopping the update being ready for release. He wouldn't give any further details, except that it was troublesome.
It may have been fixed, it may not, but even when all issues have been solved, and the update is ready, it is up to Hyperion when they release it.

But I do hope for something to play with over Xmas.

you mean the workbench screenshot with the yam notifier? what is special about it?
the notifier is new (the needed calls are already built into yam but not "used" yet). what else do you mean?

stop stop :) the screen ist a test from me, not OS 4.1.1, my idea was a Message System global for all Programms with one place to display.... my idea was long long before the feature list of 4.1.1 was released :)

... But if you look through the autodocs in SDK you see 4.1 is prepared for this message system yet, the way is done for a long time.

i hope we can customize the info-panel a little bit in os4.1.1.

I had that idea too :) And had even done some preliminary work for coding such a system, but when I asked about it, some of the OS4 guys hinted strongly that I shouldn't bother because it was on its way. It looks well I have to say!

I've no doubt we'll have the same level of customisation that we see in the likes of the menus and AmiDock - it wouldn't be very "Amiga" if it didn't :) I hope it has an ARexx port so it can be added to older apps that don't specifically support it. Of course, it would probably be trivial to write a small app that listened for ARexx commands and simply passed them on with the correct OS calls...

The Notification system has quite a good Arexx interface, so it shouldn't be a problem to retro-fit old stuff to it.
