Hi, my apologies to you, I was trying to deal with my irritation at the negative quotes below by using humour, obviously it did not translate well. As I had said I have a fully functional G3SE, so... whilst it's true that there were problems, it's taken a while, but one by one they've been dealt with.

"Maybe. But the SE is known to have many flaws..."

Unlikely AmigaONE-SE has lots of hardware problems, most not solvable.
Adding PCI card or buying a Sam440 is maybe the best solution her.

From Antique: @ChrisH
The usb on the SE is broken,no sw can fix that.

Hope this explains things,
regards Richard.

Yes you are probably right, trouble is, I was'nt smiling when I wrote that post .

Apologies to coder for dragging this off topic, though his problems appear to have been solved with your suggestions.

As to the motherboard, (bought Nov. 02) mine also has the green wires, I believe there was an earlier "developer" version. Initially it was frustrating, Linux (Suse 7.3) kept crashing, did'nt know at the time that it was PIO modes causing data corruption. USB was also a problem causing system freezes and the Kingston ram (as supplied) was failing memory tests (more of that later).

An OS4.0 developer (I forget who) independently investigated the data corruption and suggested that DMA0 was "safe", and it has proven to be so for several years now. Throughout the various OS4.0 updates USB was still safest when disabled.

With friendly advice from those who are now known as Acube, the memory was replaced with a stick of ram from Crucial, but with the latest version of OS4.1 that original Kingston ram is back in there, alongside the Crucial (total 1Gb) and not causing trouble.

The USB problems were resolved earlier this year when Hypex (and friends), discovered that a non "VIA" USB pci card worked under OS4.1, (I had previously tried an "NEC" card under OS4.0 without success, that same card works under OS4.1).

So... here we are at the end of 2009, it's been a long journey, I could be described (by some) as a "retard fanboy". Back in 2002 I wanted to support the move to PPC, looked at my available free cash and assessing the risk, took the plunge! Yes! it's been more expensive than I thought and there were dissapointments along the way, but when has life been any different,
regards Richard.

Yes, it has been a hell of a road with the SE.

I was already in the red when i started to build the A1, and i went very deep
in the red to complete the system. I used the A1 as a linux system with
online banking and all, it was a good system for me. Then came OS4 and i used
much lesser the linux side. Later when i bought my first mac-laptop i used that
as my main system and used the A1 more for budget and some other stuff.

Now i fire it up a few times a month, but i hope to do more with it in the near
future as new interesting stuff comes out. My main goal is to run DigiBoosterPro 3
on it and to give it to my son who is now still using DigiBoosterPro 2 on the
A1260/G2 in combination with his mac-laptop.

Glad to hear you've got uses for it, and someone to pass it on to,
regards Richard.

Indeed it is. And now things are looking good.
