Maybe it's the version I am using as it only has the + button on the right hand side?

AmigaOS 4.1 without beta updates

On AmigaOS 4.1 update 1 you get close gadgets inside each tab instead.

The AutoInstall scripts simply unpacks the archive, and copies the contents of the archive to the same place as your existing version. There are no icons in the archive to overwrite your settings.

It simply takes out the mundane task of downloading, unpacking and copying.

Is it any wonder why AmigaOS is still stuck in the nineties?

My ideal software is one which can be unarchived & used immediately, no installation script required!
That's the case for OWB.

One concrete example of why dumb scripts suck: They will replace all my icons, loosing any customisations I made to the tooltypes.
The AutoInstall script of OWB of course doesn't replace the icon, there isn't even one in the archive.
But even if you want to install everything manually (in case of OWB updates incl. manually unpacking the OWB.lzma file) you can still use AmiUpdate: It can be configured to just download and unpack the archives without starting the scripts.

Duh, I'm so thick! I realised there was a close gadget inside each tab but I was still looking for a - button as well. Crawls back behind rock.

Because Simon it's a great piece of software for people like me!! I mean it does everything it says on the box
it updates your Ami saves all the hassle of looking for updates and installing them!!! If ChrisH wants to do it the hard way, well each to their own

It works like a dream here. I love the background loading when opening a new tab. I also like progress bar and slighty changed GUI!

I know, because I install it manually, rather than using AmiUpdate! I didn't mean to suggest otherwise.

That's good to hear.

(Although it has a down-side: New/changed tooltypes are not automatically added, any new/better icon is not used, and (at least before OWB used stack cookies) any increase in stack size would not be used. Well, no solution is perfect!)

Posting with OWB 3.22 right now. I have only had it installed for about 15 minutes, so will reply again later after some surfing.

They are commented out anyway (with the default values as example), and mentioned in the Readme.

The new 64x64 icons (OWB itself and the drawer icon) from Mason were copied by the AutoInstall script when they were added, but with different names, IIRC into the Resources directory.

There never was one without the stack cookie, at least not from me.

I am very impressed with OWB 3.22 so far. Working very well on my MicroA1 with AmigaOS 4.1. No complaints whatsoever.

Thanks,

Oh chris, lets see how well you can come with anything better than amiupdate. I use amiupdate all the time with out it, I would be lost. And saying things like "dumb software" I find actually an insult to the developer and rude.

AU is one of the best additions for AmigaOS in the last years, using it every day and cannot complain.

Keep working on it, please

Yes and it should installed by default and be part of OS4.x imho. Most users don't even update their software and report old bugs... with a tool like AmiUpdate by default it would be easy to update OS4 installs.
I love OSX software update too.
