Blender benchmark time- now with OS4.1FE-Update 2!
Home away from home

As I'm a newbie to Blender, can anyone recommend a nice complicated drawing that we can all render using Blender and compare rendering times here?

Thanks again for the great port Andy

UPDATE:

let's use this test render recommended by Tomas (over at AW.net):

http://eofw.org/bench/

update: fun to see this old thread pop back to life after almost 12 years so let's add some 'newer' OS4.1 hardware running OS4.1 FE Update 2 figures just, as always, for fun and because we can

hoping to see some A1222 figures here eh

Rendering tests are used in the PC world to compare competing products in the same price range, this applies to both HW or in other cases, the same scene is reproduced and rendered within several different 3D packages (or rendering engines) on the SAME cpu to check which one does the very same job faster.

Checking a single software on our range of PPC CPUs, is like using 3DStudioMax to check who's faster between Pentium 90Mhz, PentiumPro 200Mhz, PentiumII450Mhz, and Pentium III 1Ghz.

Quite pointless...

Running benchmarks between CPUs of the same architecture isn't useful to check which one is faster (which is obvious per se), but to check what order of difference there iss between them. In our case I'm interested to know how much difference there is between A1's and Sam440's CPUs; another interesting check would be to run CPU-optimized compiles of Blender, to see if they make difference and how much.

Varhall beat me to it....besides 90% of the things I do with my miggy's is "pointless" as you say...though of course the main point for me is to have fun

...ahhh c'mon you know you want to run that benchmark with your Samflex....I'm curious to see if the 733 with the faster rambus will be quicker than the 800's

Looking at that eofw.org/bench site these, f.ex., got similar results: MIPS R14000 700 MHz, Athlon64 2 GHz, Pentium4 3 GHz and PPC G4 1.5 GHz.

Blender uses MiniGL, not Cairo. Do not mix up everything.

Since I saw the note about systems being slower under Update 2 and I hadn't updated yet, I thought I'd try it before and after, to give it a shot.

Sam400ep-flex 800 Mhz, 1G RAM, solid state disk.
4.1.1: 19:25.36
4.1.2: 19:32.32

Seven seconds slower. Not much of a difference.
