I want to use an HD Radeon in my Sam Flex

So the drivers have full 2d acceleration now, and the UBOOT has been updated to allow using the cards... I'm wondering if I can use 1920x1080 DVI screens on HD radeons without problems? My eyes could do with a slightly better display.. my 24" has been running on VGA to avoid problems, and I'd like to use 32bit modes again if I had more than 128mb video ram.. Im not worried about 3d support for now.

I have Radeon 9250 128 MB here. I am running 1920x1080 32bit since day one, without any apparent problems. Opening more than 80 windows at a time does slow down the system a lot if window shadows are enabled.

usually I'm using 3 screens OWB, Workbench and AmiCygnix (16bit)

The monitor is connected throught DVI although VGA works perfectly too. No adapters here.

edit: ignore this. sorry I misread your post, I thought it was about 1920x1080 on radeon in general, you are speaking soleley about HD-radeon. ignore this.

my monitor is glitchy with the radeon dvi.. and I use 16bit modes to avoid running out of gfx memory with my many screens and tabs. I have compositing enabled for nice ringhio effects, and I optimise for memory usage instead of performance. Id love to have everything turned on to the max and running off DVI. would be heaven.

This is well within my price range:

512mb ram.. that would be so sweet.

edit: Im currently using the radeon 9250 or similar 128mb but Id love to upgrade to a hd2400 for the extra ram, and better working DVI port for my higher resolutions.. no reduced blanking maybe? Im not sure how that works.. maybe Hans could clarify here..
imagine: 1920x1080x32bit, compositing, window drop shadows, optimised for performance instead of memory usage.. that would be nice.

I know the Radeon 9250 256MB exists. But agreed a HD 2400 512MB would be great!

As of performance vs memory consumption, I can't really notice any differnce akward. it's set up to use 32bit

DVI works on Radeon HD cards with my driver, except for Radeon HD 4350 cards, for which I haven't implemented the DVI code yet (this will be true for any 4000 series card, and possibly 3000 series too). However, 2D acceleration is for Radeon X1000 series (X1300 and X1550) only at the moment. It's also very likely that, when I get round to writing 3D drivers, the X1000 series will get it first. I realize that everyone wants to buy the best card on the market, but I can get results with the X1000 series faster than with the newer cards.

See this page for a list of tested hardware.

Unfortunately, OpenFirmware doesn't detect the card (it doesn't look behind the PCI-to-PCIe bridge during PCI bus scanning), so the card cannot be used. I've tried contacting Genesi about getting OpenFirmware fixed, and received no response. Someone else said that they'd try to contact BPlan, and I haven't heard anything since.

Unless someone fixes OpenFirmware, there's nothing that I can do about this.
