A1XE Uboot traces

Since thrusday evening my A1XEG4 suddenly choosed to refuse to boot. In fact it was running while the system froze (as I was running a debug session) I thought it was my fault, but neither soft nor hard reboot bring it back to life.

At some time I got this from Uboot trace :


Can someone explain me if this is refering to the 512 MB memory stick I have in it or to something else.

Then I eventually managed to get it started friday and thought it was just a matter of dust and moved connections but despite it rebooted fine yesterday it went to black screen during inactivity and refused since now to reboot correctly. However now I can see that UBoot seems to go well and even launch OS 4.1 only I see that

Can I safely try to source a supported VGA card or will I eventually find after having one that it fails on something else ?
Can a weak CPU connection provoques such errors ? (I want you to note that I never unfitted nor changed anything on my CPU module, it stayed like it is since I bought it back in 2004).

Not sure i can be of any help. But the things i did when my A4k didn't start was to pick it apart. Clean all parts,then assemble it again. And put back only the things that are essensial for the machine to work. It could be that a card,mem stick has loosened from the slot,if you're lucky. And the cpu card might be a bit loose?? And check that the cpu fan is sitting ok.

Tryed to change the clock battery?
Many weiord problems was caused by a weak battery on A1...

Of course common things have been done :
- battery change
- unplugging, replugging cards,
- dust blowing

UBoot ROM starts up the VGA card. If it doesn't remove the ROM chip carefully with extractor and spray clean socket and wires with a good electrical cleaner that doesn't leave any residue. Put the chip back in carefully. I've been here and it and it works! Ask Noel Fuller if it works?

Yes but I'm not sure about the one I tried Anyway there was no change at all.

remove the battery unplug it from power grid, have it tuned off for a day, this should reset the CMOS, oh and get a new battery.
and maybe you should try to find a different ATI GFX card, you never know.

Yes I already changed the battery but I'm reluctant to buy a new GFX card if the problem is elsewhere... My budget is very tight those days and I would rather prefer saving money for a new system than spending it on a pointless GFX card...
