Hi, I am trying out RDesktopGUI I have a SAM and a PC connected to an ADSL router. I have a problem saving the 'profile ' element 'Computer' i used the same IP as for AmiFtp 192.... User Name and Password also as in AmiFTP When i then hit 'connect' i get the message 'the current profile does not include the remote computer address or name... When i save it it is stell the same, when i reload the profile the 'Coputer' field is empty.
for windows xp: go to ''my computer'' right click on properties and then choose the ''remote'' tab. in ''remote desktop'' check the ''allow users to connect remotely to this computer'' it may need to setup remote user to ''select remote users'' too. use of rdesktop
This software package can also be found on the Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition product CDs and can be installed on any supported Windows platform. To install from the CD, insert the disc into the target machine's CD-ROM drive, select Perform Additional Tasks, and then click Install Remote Desktop Connection.
OK Remote Desktop is present on my PC. Clicking on, it i get the opportunity to identify a remote computer, i used the IP of my SAM as known to the router Seems not to be oK ??
At the Sam side i get an error messag, ot the right number of arguments, when trying to connect. ONly thing i left open is the domain name. I would not know where to get it from??
Can you tell me in what order i shoud proceed exactly, and what ot fill in in the 2 places where i am not sure. (? above) Thanks
Remember there are two parts to Remote Desktop the client and the server, the client connects to other machines and the server allows you machine to be connected to. Sounds like you have started the client. What you need to do is right click on My COmputer/properties and follow the instructions above (or go into Control panel/system to get to the same place) and set up the Server on your windows machine..

RDesktop in amiga side act only as a client. you can use it to logon on a win pc and control it. not the opposite. if you need to control Sam from the pc better use amivnc.
you can find the domain name of the network in windows by right clicking ''my computer''/properties/Computer name''. in home networks usualy is the ''Workgroup'' name.
I am back and have tried mainly to "add" the SAM to the list of computers that can access the PC. using Remote DeskTop (server i guess) "Select Users" window Where i have the following choices "Select object type" only 1 choice 'users' "From this location" only 1 choice the name of the PC "Enter the object names to select" with examples : Display Name: first name last name Object Name : Computer 1 Username: User 1 Objectname@Domainname DomainnName/ObjectName
I am supposed to enter some identification I have tried the ones i found using Internet/prefs (an IP and 'localhost') The 'check' told me those could not be found.
As said both computers are connected to an ADSL router, and i did not set up any other network.
I did look into there for an usable identification for the SAM but did not found it (yet) ----- What can i do now?
the setup of rdesktop is much easier than you think. in rdesktop folder use the icon Living_room_PC. type the ip of the pc in the tooltypes and the user name you use to this pc, and run the program.
Thanks very much, i have seen the PC (not the light) at last. I did copyt both the (png) icons from the subfolder they were in to the rdesktop folder, and entered what you told me.
I don't see the rdesktop icon though, and the other one is not viewed as it probably should.
I guess my preferences should allow png icon's somewhere.
What i see is the Windows requester asking for the password. Initially there was no password set up, and still i could not enter Windows any further.
There are three user accounts (2 administrators) to which i added a password. However i still could not pass the initial requester, using any of the new passwords.
I am looking throught Windows help on passwords, but did not find the clue yet
it's a bit tricky here because i had a similar problem and was coming from the keyboard layout. in windows i have english and greek keyboard, and when i try to logon with rdesktop the keyboard switching to the greek keymap. but the password is in english so the system does not accept it. then i switching manually the keyboard to english and it's ok.
