Wireless internet on SAM
Just popping in
Just popping in

See User information
I have just bought a new toy and want to get full use out of it, however "She Who Must be Obeyed" will not allow bits of wire trailing around the house. All internet access has to be via the wireless connection. I normally use my XP desktop with a Belkin USB but I want to retire the Windows setup. Is there a driver out there for the belkin on OS4 or a wireless card that can be fitted to the SAM?
Any help or advice gratefully accepted.

Problems solved
Thanks to all for your help

as for pci, be careful for the 3.3 volt cards sam accept.
having this in mind, netgear ma311 is safe to use with prism2 device.

one obvious solution thats nice and easy is to buy a pair of ethernet over power adaptors and run it that way, much easier, more secure and more reliable to be honest...

I ordered myself a Netgear wireless access point from Amazon. It probably isn't the cheapest solution but it uses WPA encryption so it should work with my network at home. When it arrives I should be able to report success from my new toy.
Here's looking forward to some fun!

Although the Netgear wireless access point is advertised as having client mode I have not been able to set it up to work.
I even phoned the Netgear helpline which turned out to be a total waste of time effort and money. I am currently running 2 computers, one for interweb access and one for fun.

Access points are ment to allow wireless clients to connect to a wired network, so this will probably be a problem with any WAP.

However there may be hope, you may be able to put the router and AP into bridge mode, but this may not be in the firmware for your AP. Bridge mode is for connecting two wired networks via wireless.

Have a good read of your manual.

Good luck

not always. if Nimrod was not in a hurry i would propose to him to get a TP-LINK TL-WA501G.
i use a lot of them in a wide network in my neighborhood as ap and client.

What model number is it? Is it a WG602? if so that should work fine. The 802.11n AP's don't yet have client mode - this comes in a firmware update soon.

This would all be much easier if there was a 802.11g pci card available for OS4.0...

Leave some details here.

Darren

While I was setting the WG602 up on my WinXP machine for the umpteenth time it suddenly woke up and connected me. I have now connected the access point to the new toy and just need help to get the Sams Ethernet ports configured to work the WG602.

ok. first if you have more than one computer to connect to the ap-client
you need a network switch. second, give the router's ip (named gateway in winxp ethernet settings).
probably will be something like
192.168.0.1 or
192.168.1.1 or
192.168.2.1 or
192.168.1.254 or
10.0.0.1

Cracked It !
The two ends of the wireless connection were allocating different IP addresses
I bypassed DCHP on the ethernet setup and on the WG602 and set them to
10.0.0.8 and set the modem to the same.
This reply is being sent from the Amiga using OWB

Thanks to everybody for the hints and guidance
