AmigaOne - dead...
Just popping in

Good morning to all!

I had a nasty surprise last night, as i went to set up my micro-A1 in a new case, i ended up with a dead machine for unknown reason..

Facts: i haven't used my system for a while..a long while actualy! - i had os4 (r) set up and just before the machine died, when i tried to boot and install os 4.1, i could get the machine to boot, resulting in several errors.

Also, the mobo green led is on, the mouse has power (its blue light is on), the power switch turns on the machine but the cpu fan is not spinning!

So apart from a "fried" cpu, could it (hopefully) be something else???

It could just be the Power supply from your new case is not compatible with your amiga one that is quite common problem with mini-itx mother boards not just the AmigaOne board.

So I would start my connecting up the power supply from your old case to your amigaone in the new case as see if that works. If it dose it meens that you need to find another power supply that fits your case and works with your amigaone.

the funny part is that i transfered my a1 from the mini-itx case to a micro-atx with atx psu standard because i had problems with slim dvd's etc!! So the A1 died in the micro-atx case with the standard 300watt psu and not the mini 60watt!!

If the battery was changed many months ago and the AOne wasn't plugged, there is 99% chances that the battery has died again.

ok, but would this resulted into the cpu fan not spinning?? Just the battery??

Yes it can do I had the same problem with one of the other two mini-itx systems I have. The problem only showed up when I tried to swap them between cases so I could use a PCI card.

Different parts of the system run off different voltage lines and AmigaPPC boards and VIA C3 board both use a lot less power than AMD Athlon or Intel Core2 Systems.

My sam440ep (mini-itx) board also dose the same with the supplied power supply in one of my mini-itx cases and that case has a 200W PSU the other 2 have ether 60W or 80W PSU's.

I think he means that the new power supply doesn't feel any load and thus doesn't give power to the board. Since you have power on both the USB (USB mouse, right?) and Ethernet ports I doubt that is the problem. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Check the fan connection and try to hook your old power supply up if possible.

Guys thank you all!

It was the same all story with A1's! I changed the battery and the cpu started spinning again!! Unbelievable! I wonder , everything in A1's are battery related??? I'll start setting up my uboot settings again and also the complete system. No need for psu for the time being.

I`m one of the few who has had to replace my battery once or twice but
my recent problem was strange.
I received my new 1 ghz processor from Acube and it ran fine for the
about 3-4 months then just stopped working.
Nothing i did would revive it including removing the processor board and
reseating. So it sat in the cupboard for another 4 months till a couple a
days ago. I thought i might try the PS3 trick on the processor with the heat gun. i did not have to because on connecting it up i rocked the processor
board checking how well it was secured,it seemed to move more than i
liked so i gave the fixing screws a little tweak(next to nothing really).

Lo and behold it started up and is still going a few days later.
Now i need to get that version of 4.1 i meant to get before it stopped
working

I revive this thread because i committed again the same sin.

To explain: after all this battery changing etc, i managed to get the mA1 working with OS4.1 update 1, when i came up with the "brillant idea" to relocate the board to a mini-itx case with the minimum required components, that means no dvd-rom, just the board + the HDD.

The board worked fine the first time i turned it on, closed the box and from that time on the board turns on, the cpu is working (fan spinning at least) battery is brand new of course BUT there is no signal at the screen! I hear the hdd loading data etc but i could not get a signal!!!

I am guessing, probably a power supply problem (psu is 60watt) but i disconnected everything including hdd + fans and once again no signal! I tried also the remote possibility of using a pci gfx Radeon 9200 but nothing changes!!

Does anyone knows the power supply demands of the mA1 in order to at least know that the psu is or is not sufficient before rellocating once again?
