well I just reinstalled and I honestly wouldnt have bothered again unless the need for Open Office and the ability to print on my HP Laserjet printer...hoping AmigaOS will get this capability soon
my advice to all Sam owners is to just try to keep the basic installation from the setup cd because after I installed more than 3 programs my system became unstable and also always immediately back up anything you do in Debian !

Try this Open kpackage (the kde package manager.
Under menu "file" go to find package. Search for cups. Repeat the search and install everything cups related. Also search for kooka and install.
hopefully your scanner will be found. If not use the printer prefs to try and find it in the list.
Cheers ace
tried to install cups related stuff... a lot was already installed .... some other cups stuff conflicted with some cups libs etc... so couldn't install everything.
kooka was already there, but doesn't find a scanner
If I go to KDE Controll Center, I find my printer in printer prefs as Phaser_6180MFP-N. Model says 6115MFP Foomatic/foo2lava.
Some questions there:
What has Cups to do with scanning ? Isn't sane the one and only scanning driver possibility ? sane-scan-image command doesn't work, whereas sane-find-scaner reports at least a scanner - do you think there is still hope ? Any idea how to utilize the fax of my MFP ???
I think all drivers for all in one printers/scanners etc are installed by CUPS but I am not 100% sure. I have had previous standalone scanners found by Sane (Canon Lide) but not with my HP all in one systems, so I use CUPS regardless.
One other point are you logging in as root (which most of the time I do). Sane does not like root and may refuse to work.
As an aside I am replying on my Sam Flex using Debian Lenny - Iceweasel 3.5.8 and it is working better than the version that came with Lenny. I have also installed OpenOffice3 which works remarkably quickly.
I'll fiddle with xsane again and see if I can help out. I am no Linux guru but I have been learning it since I got my A1 XE all those years ago.
ace, any news on a Debian sound driver for my Revolution 5.1 card ?? if one exists how would I install it?? (funny after all these years to be a total noob with regards to a computer OS
btw, great news on Iceweasel and OO updates...please keep us posted if they are stable in the upcoming weeks
ace, how's your Sam with the new Iceweasel/ Open Office doing??
btw, installed Opera (thanks!) but I can't seem to actually run it from the icon?? when I click or open it nothing happens?? ah well I'd probably just use the new IceWeasel anyhow as I love the Firefox layout
The system is running pretty well and stable so far.
Re Opera, try this:
1 Go to KMenu/Settings/Menu Updating Tool 2. Scan and see if Opera appears, if so select (and any other item you wish to add to the menu). 3 Apply.
Hopefully Opera will eb there.
Failing that try this:
Right click on Panel Add Application the add Non-KDE Application Enter Opera for Button Title and opera for executable. Click on the icon which appears in the gui (next to Button Title) and then select the Opera icon in the selection that appears.
tried but still no go ace....no worries as I'll most likely use IceWeasel (new version) anyhow...so how can I get the new version of it and OO that you have??
ah ok that did the trick ...wow I'm impressed with this latest Open Office as I threw a large complicated spreadsheet (xls) and report (doc) with tons of formatted pictures at it and it loaded up perfect!
I hope AmigaOS gets OO soon ..maybe in time for X1000's arrival
@328gts -:). I am chuffed you have got it going. Amazing how some later versions work faster and more stable. By the way I am writing this on my MacMini 1.5 using OWB 1.7 on MOS which is extremely impressive, so just imagine the A1000X.
I got a problem with my SAM 440 EP and Debian Linux.
I am installing using the latest netinst ISO form Acube's site. I am using the PArthenope Bootloader and everything goes like a charm during the installation.
But when I am finally booting the system form PArthenope there is a problem. System is unable to display graphics, I mean it starts booting and when it goes on gfx mode -probably n log in screen-- all I get is a Blakc Screen.
Please note:
1. I Have not got any extra graphics card on my SAM
2. I tested with three different monitors same result.
3. I am using the DVI to VGA adapter given with the SAM Board.
4. Bering in the Black Screen, I switched to console mode and edited the xorg.conf file changing the device section (I converted the field "Radeon" To "Vesa"), but now I get an error in the log file that there is no Vesa Module installed.
su - <enter your root password> cd /etc/X11 nano xorg.conf
