What options if any do we as OS4.x users have in the way of Native Forum Software?

I'm thinking of using one of my SAMs to operate either a MUD BBS or an actual Website, or perhaps both?

I can compile the MUD software myself so that's easy... can you imagine zones created with themes from imitation OSs for example? Heh...

No use hoping someone will create the haven we want perhaps it's time to get involved at a lower level... lol

I guess security could be an issue too... I don't want to run another OS like linux etc, it all has to be native... perhaps there isn't any real choice yet but its good to get the thinking caps on now...

perhaps options in open source etc?

any thoughts welcome...

Apache with any PHP forum software should do the trick I'd have thought.

Only problem you might have is sql database support.

Apache on the Amiga runs Perl, does it not? There are a couple of Perl forum suites which don't use SQL, so that could be a way out...

SQL should work on AmigaOS now. Ask Edgar.

Theres SQL and theres SQL.

Theres also which SQL server to use. It also depends on whether you want the Amiga to be fully contained or not.

thanks for your suggestions... perhaps the next step I could ask for is if you were going to run everything on OS4.x on the new Amiga HW what setup and software would you use and why?

I can then try and gauge things and see what I can and cannot do or shouldn't do etc...

thanks for all your help!

AAMP provides Apache, MySQL, and PHP. One warning though, Amiga OS 4.x lacks a multi-user filesystem that restricts what people can and can't access (unless you have MuFS, and it works on OS 4.x). As a result, you may be opening yourself up to being hacked if you run a webserver on your Amiga. I'd use AAMP more as a local developer server.
