Utilitybase is infected (again)

Yes, visiting Utilitybase brings up a virus warning by my machine. This is the second time that it's happened, and it's been like that for a few weeks now. Last time it took over a month before it was fixed, and the site got blacklisted for malware in the meantime.

Utilitybase is a great site, but do we need a replacement for it? Normally I wouldn't suggest something like this because I don't like undermining someone else's work, but the malware infections are happening too often, and taking too long to be fixed.

I agree that we need professional quality (virusfree) developer site.

Other than that, is the infection harmfull to windows only?

(IMHO, it would be nice if Amiga viruskillers could be set to notice also windows viruses, if user so desires.)

Yes.
Chasing win viruses (that try to push themself to HDD etc.) might be good practice while Amiga viruses are in sleep.

In the meanwhile every home should have F-prot running in linux.

I like very much UB as it, just because design are clean and so on. And imho, if compare with any other amiga related sites, the other ones will be badly than UB. Just because almost all amigans have no expirience with design, www code and alt.

UB here looks professional already, but, that problems with mailware already annoy very well. I say to Nicomen i think 2-3 weeks ago, that UB again infected, but, looks like he or not have time, or do not know how, or just not have interest to fix that problem.

@nicomen
Common, fix that crappy mailware problems :) UB is not only "current" developer site, but it also have big database of interesting topics, which we will never found anymore if UB will die.

Most sites which get infected by trojans are usually due to a few common issues; Permissions of files set to world writable, web applications not kept up to date so they get exploited, injection attacks etc. While the web site maintainer can be proactive with some of the problems, certain areas need to be addressed by the hosting provider, especially if it is a shared hosting environment.

For all we know, the site itself is being taken care of correctly, but the environment it is being hosted in may not be. No need to throw out the baby with the bath water ;)

NB: I have to admit, I only visit Utility Base occasionally so all comments are to be taken as hearsay.

The fact that it takes so long for malware to be removed suggests that it's not being looked after properly. Also, submit a news article there, and it can take over a month to get approved. It's a good site, but it's not much use if it's infected with malware.

What if it's Javascript malware? OWB doesn't automatically protect you from that. In fact, we have no idea if OWB's Javascript has any sort of protections.

I use Firefox on my PC most of the time.

I managed to get my account deleted within two days when I unintentionally became a spammer.. so there's somebody keeping an eye on it at least. Removing Malware will need direct access to the server, which likely limits the number of people able to fix it.

I fully agree with you. UtilityBase is a very good site with a positive atmosphere, helpful discussions ... all stored in the database, what makes a huge knowledge.

But I am annoyed regularly by spams ... and I was ignoring there are web viruses. I am not a web specialist and I don't know how to fix that but Utilitybase must be safer, with the current framework or another one.
