Optimizing AAMP
Home away from home
Home away from home

See User information
I've put an article on my website describing how you can improve AAMP's performance. More specifically, it speeds up the MySQL server.

My configuration isn't exactly optimal, but in my quick test, it improved performance about 100 times. That should benefit people who play around with AAMP, but aren't familiar with MySQL.

If anyone has any other tips, put them here. I'll update/write-new articles if there's any more useful advice for beginners.

Do bear in mind that my configuration won't work for machines with 128 MiB or less RAM, and it's not the best configuration for people with 1 GiB or more.

Also, my suggestion of adding the option to insert myApacheStarter into WBStartup isn't a good idea at the moment. The reason is that, on my system it lists Apache as inactive when I do this, even though it is active. Most likely this occurs because the network stack isn't up and running when it loads (I put run in front of that line in the startup-sequence).

It would be great to improve a bit your installation script!

For example you could ask the user some of the configuration details of the package such as the service user and password, the default ports for each service, which character set should be used as a default, the http server domain name and so.

To have an idea of the installation process of the three software on windows you can check these sites:
- MySQL configuration steps
- Apache configuration steps
- PHP configuration steps

Keep it up Edgar!
AAMP is a great achievement!

I've been thinking a bit more about improving the performance of the server, and one of the things that give AMP servers a good boost is the Zend Optimizer. The Zend Optimizer appears to have become the de-facto standard PHP optimizer. Unfortunately, it is closed-source, so it's unlikely that we'll be able to get that one onto Amiga OS, at least for now.

However, I've spotted an open-source PHP optimizer called eAccelerator. Has anyone tried it? Any good?
