Well I have folders with hundreds of pics while doing a report for my work so hitting 's' after every picture gets quite tedious...much easier for me if the pic no (or title) was present at the border of the pic for quick reference
@all After a loooong delay, an updated preview can be downloaded here: (EDIT: old version removed)
Changes include: * Added a menu! Finally feels like a proper program ;) * Now supports Shell (and Workbench) parameter passing, so it can open a folder directly. * Non-picture files are now hidden, instead of wasting space. * User changes to the folder's contents (like moving a file) no-longer needs to reload the entire folder. * Now continues to load thumbnails when it's window/screen is inactive (despite the window not being updated). * Shows the selected picture in the status bar. * Now uses an anti-aliased font. * Added experimental support for executing a command on a picture.
One question: Is Amiga-O for zooming in a conflict with the "open" shortcut? Seems to be on my setup.
Doh. Yes it is :( . The menus were a last-minute thing, but I will fix it. EDIT: I decided to simply remove the shortcut key for "open", since it shouldn't be needed very often.

@all Thanks for the nice words about it!
I downloaded the proggy. To me, it's a great new approach to looking at your pics on a computer! fantastic! It's fast and intuitive. Thanks! A slide show function would be nice to have.
and btw just looking for the slide show I got a grim reaper. where to post the crash log?
Nice and fast, like the way you can browse the drawers. Decent size thumbnails too, unlike some tools that create thumbnail icons on WB for pictures, which I find often too small to be of any real use.

Wouldn't be much use, since the debug info is stripped from the executable. I'll try to keep it in next time. Until then, a description of the last things you did (and whether anything was selected) would be best. Send it via email if possible.

Changes include: - Menus items are now ghosted when they can't be used. - Added ability to pass the current folder to a command. - Removed conflicting shortcut key from "Open folder" menu item. - Compiled with debug info, so the Grim Reaper can generate a useful crashlog.
Just downloaded your new program version (dated today, 28 June 2010, here in the US) and ran it "cold," out of the "box." It read a folder of 192 .jpg images with an average size of 0.8 MB each in less than 10 seconds. Clicking on a random thumbnail displayed a full-screen image on my SAM440 in less than 2 seconds.
Congratulations on your achievement. And thanks for providing the next picture viewer for all of us to use. It's work like this that keeps us going forward as a community. This is one of the best new programs I've seen in my 24 years using the Amiga as my platform of choice. It just works, like software should. I'm really looking forward to the improvements as they are made.

Yes! I agree with that completely.?Looking forward to the bells and whistles, but the basic operation totally works and brings something a little different to this particular type of software.
thanks for the update..big improvement on this release ..is it possible to scroll the pictures just with the left and right arrow keys (most intuitive)?
I tried it : it works fine (no grimreaper !) and it is very usefull. Thanks !
Some advices (or what I would prefer) :
- tooltype Windows=yes or no : it's bad Just windows or (windows) will be better (just one click with shift to choose.) : is there a menu for that ? I don't remember
- I don't like the state bar just behind the title bar : must be at the end of the screen or disapear (or in the title bar : if it is possible)
- i tried with a drawer of 1000 pictures It's hard to navigate easily through it : If it was possible to navigate by scroll (like it is actually) and with some kind of page mark, like a pdf reader (with all document in a row), it would be better
- zoom in and out : I prefer A + "+" or A + "-" on the numeric keyboard
- last but not least : if the thumbnail could be save as the .info of the file, it would be nice !
Excellent, the new path option makes PictureAlbum usable but with some limitations. The tooltypes are ignored so I am stuck with the default screen mode and tiny thumbs with no access to my cached files :(
Apart from that, Excellent work :)

That's a good idea.

No, but that's an even better idea! I should scrap tooltypes completely, now that I can use menus.

Do you mean you want the status bar at the bottom of the screen? I'm sure that could be an option. But why would you want to get rid of the status bar completely?
But no, it could not be in the screen's title bar.

Yes, it *could* be done, but I think there is already a program available to do this, plus I'm not convinced it would fit well into how my program works.

yes but the < and> don't work on my system??
When holding-down the RightAmiga key? Do you have an open picture (not thumbnail) selected?

Wierd, they work here - did you get rid of the brackets around each line? But I'm now thinking of scrapping tooltype completely...
