A few questions about nice piece of kit which I've got on order.
I assume it'll work in the SAM (non flex) without issue and read and write to Amiga disks OK? However, does the Easy ADF software work ok on the SAM?
I got Easy ADF for use on my A1200, but wondered if it was SAM compatible. If Easy ADF does not work, is there another piece of software that works on SAM that'll enable me to create Amiga disks from ADF images?
My Windows PCs are the other option for use of the Catweasel, but alas the only two PC's I have are 64bit Windows 7, which I've seen threads discussing that the drivers don't work. Has anyone else got this to work on Windows 7 64bit?

That may be assuming a bit much. At least, I read that Catweasel was aimed at Windows, and their support for AmigaOS was poor or non-existant. If that has changed, then I might actually order one myself...
Not sure about the differences betweem 3 and 4. But there should be a catweasel driver for catweasel 3 for amiga. AFAIK. Or you can just ask Liveforit.

Support for Amiga OS isn't the greatest, but it DOES work on my XE with 4.1 for reading and formatting floppies.

I'm doing just the opposite here, creating ADF's from my old floppies. It's worked so far. But I haven't tried writing any floppies. (with a Catweasel MK III, but the software is the same for both)

I've also written a MUI-based disk imager to read/write all these formats. Amiga FFS works and can format, MS-DOS filesystem reads and writes but doesn't format, and fs1541 (the C64 filesystem) is partially working (it reads ok).
However, you don't need to mount a filesystem to read/write ADF images, and you can always dismount the filesystem. With no filesystem using the Catweasel, there's no gronking!
Remember, there's a reason for the gronk of an Amiga disk drive, it's not just there to annoy people! It's the same reason the Catweasel does it. Yes, there are noclick programs, but they can be risky with some disk drives, so it's not a default option. Better a click every few seconds than a crunch of a dead disk drive as it tries to seek to track -1!
I may well put in a option to disable the gronk, but this will also disable automatic disk changes, remember!

I will test it all on my Sam 440 Flex! I actually need to write a Workbench 3.1 disk badly as my disk went on the outs and I want to get my A4000 running again! Been wanting to test the catweasel in my sam 440 amiga for awhile but my house flooded thankfully all my stuff was off the ground but i dared not plug anything in until the water was gone.
I'm about to go away on holiday now, but I'll try and get another release done when I come back.
Made some more progress today, though - I read my first 3" disk! Or at least parts of it. I need to be sure the disks I'm using are good, though. It's important though as it means my home-made 3" floppy (26 pin) adaptor works too, and lets me read and soon write Amstrad CPC/PCW, Sinclair Spectrum +3 and Tatung Einstein disks!
If all you want to do is to write ADFs, you should be able to use the version that's currently available just fine, in the meantime!
The clicking sound should slow down after a while, at least my last internal driver does that, I don't know Spirantho ever got hold of my latest driver.

So, should I order a Catweasel Mk4 for my Sam440ep-flex? I just rehoused the board into a better case, so now there's a lot of room and I can fit a floppy. Do I fit any old 3.5-inch PC floppy to read and write Amiga floppies with the 'weasel? Are we waiting for better drivers or is what's out now fine for reading and writing Amiga floppies under AOS4.1u2?
Finally, the spot for a SID chip.... is it of any use under any AOS4 software?
Not quite any floppy - but most will work. From memory Teac are best, Sony are good, but Mitsumi don't like the Catweasel.
As for the drivers, they seem pretty stable these days but as I'm constantly changing them you may be better off with the last public build on OS4Depot - it's out of date but seems to work for people.
