COMMODORE USA ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF AMIGA EXCLUSIVE WORLDWIDE LICENSING RIGHTS
Company to produce new line of Amiga branded keyboard computers

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL. and MAPLE VALLEY, WA. August 31, 2010 ? Commodore USA, LLC and Amiga Inc., today announced their licensing agreement whereby Commodore USA, LLC will produce a full line of new AMIGA branded "AIO" (All In One) keyboard computers, under an exclusive worldwide license granted by Amiga Inc. for this newly revitalized computer category.

Mr. Barry Altman, President and CEO of Commodore USA, LLC states "We are ecstatic to be partnering with Amiga Inc. in this new, exciting product launch. The legacy of the Commodore and Amiga trademark brand, reunited once again after so many years, and our reintroduction of the legendary All-In-One computer keyboard form factor, combined with the twenty-five year anniversary of the introduction of the first Amiga computer by Commodore International, is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Commodore USA has now taken a major role in not just supporting the future Amiga market with our many new products, but also in providing a new beginning for the enormous existing Amiga community. Our relationship with them, along with our support for the elegant, robust and lightweight AROS desktop operating system, will ensure that they and future customers will benefit from our new and exciting vision, and enable the legacy Commodore and Amiga culture to flourish. We look forward to bringing these new products to market, and welcoming a whole new generation of computer users to the Commodore and Amiga experience". Mr. Altman continues " I would like to personally thank our team of advisors, consultants, lawyers and most of all the over 5 million viewers to our website, and the 270,000+ respondents who took the time to provide us with not only their thoughts and suggestions, but offered us their support and wishes for our success. And one more thing: We have now successfully negotiated the acquisition of two legendary brand exclusive trademark licenses. Our efforts will now continue in acquiring the third and final brand license, completing our quest for the total technology trifecta. Stay tuned...the best is yet to come!".

In response to an overwhelming demand from Amiga users worldwide, Commodore USA's CTO Leo Nigro announced today that their new Amiga branded computers will be fully AROS compatible, and that they will be supporting the AROS open source community in every way possible. Mr. Nigro states "With the monumental strides that AROS has recently achieved, we realize the importance of accelerating this progress with funding that will enable this project to rapidly move forward and take it's rightful place at the forefront of desktop operating systems". With the recent announcement of their newly updated Commodore C64 model, and the acquisition of the Amiga brand exclusive trademark license, Commodore USA has once again catapulted the Commodore and Amiga namesake to the forefront of consumer electronics brand recognition.

But all in all I find commodoreUSA's move pretty lame, I know they are in it for the money but chinese products with a Commodore (Amiga) sticker, really!

Perhaps an incentive to finally get os4 ported to x86, rather than insanely expensive and underpowered ppc stuff, like I've suggested for the last 10 years or so.

Well, probably not, unfortunately. It's not like CommodoreUSA seem like a very serious business at this point.

Commodore USA would/should have nothing to do with AmigaOS4 going X86 (or X86-64). This decision should have been made no matter if Commodore existed or not.

Personally I don't give a sh#t which CPU runs my computer (IMO the Intel Outside days are over) I just want it to be cheap and easy to get hold of. AROS certainly showed the way lately by supporting a few but readily available setups.

Regarding the Commodore USA products I think the current line sucks and I think the days of an AIO (C64 like) computer is over.

So Amigas are not allowed to be called Amigas anymore but these PCs are ?

The craziness of these legal meanderings is beyond belief

At the other site HyperionMP already talked about having his American laywers take action. There seems to be a breach of the contract between Amiga Inc and Hyperion.

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/v ... wmode=flat&order=0#577704

I guess both Amiga Inc and "Commodore" have had laywers had a look before entering the agreement so this is going to be fun to watch.

Must say that IF the agreement between Hyperion and Amiga allows Amiga Inc to license the Amiga name for use with an Amiga like system as AROS it looks like a really bad performance by Hyperions laywers.

I sincerely hope not - I am sick and tired of court action slowing things down to a virtual limbo.

I hope if Hyperion do have a water tight contract that they sue for every penny until Amiga inc is dead for good.

I put a link to HyperionMP's statement in my post above.

I hope Amiga Inc has to pull out of this deal with Commodore, more court cases would be a waste of OUR time

There is a problem with that news announcement.
While it might be true that Commodore USA has
acquired the Amiga brand name to use for their
line of PCs running AROS, they did NOT gain the
name from Hyperion Entertainment, who owns
the rights now, but from Amiga Inc..

According to Hyperion themselves, this is a
clear violation of Hyperions' rights..

Expect Amiga Inc to be sued again for violating
the law where Hyperion owns the rights..

The conlusion is that we shouldn't worry about this,
as we should focus on SAM460ex and the AmigaOne X1000 as normal.

Soon to own a powerful AmigaOne X1000 with latest AmigaOS 4.1 incarnation ;) Dual Core PPC!

Hyperion does not own the Amiga name. Only AmigaOS, AmigaOne etc.

It must be something else HyperionMP is thinking of. Maybe someone who followed the courtcase can tell us?

You are right about that one. This might be confusing, so there might be another reason to bring it to the court again..

YES I did think Iwin but I doubt it's fake since longtime AW.net member BigBen TheAussie has stepped forward and admitted to be part of "Commodore"USA.

Anyway it will be interesting to see what will be happening now we have 2 Amiga systes commercially available.

One Amiga like OS running on Amiga branded HW and the Real AmigaOS running on AmigaOne HW

Must be confusing for outsiders.

When you need to use ?laywers? then that?s where bad for marketing, I hope this will not drag out.
I really don?t see anything funny about this.

No it's not funny but pretty typical for the Amiga scene.

Look at the positive side of things (7-9-13) at least it's not preventing Hyperion in working on AmigaOS, neither is it stopping Acube or AEON.
