Large File Support Software

Objective:

To get my various 2.3g to 2.7g movie files onto a DVD-R without halving them... a few are avi but most are mkv...

I seem to remember before the days of reliable versions of Frying Pan or the creation of AmiDVD that I complied that set of programs that had mkiso and similair and in that source you could enable support for larger files...

In this avenue could I use mkiso (the release currently on OS4Depot inside DVDRTools? I know I could write partial DVDRs with the executable writer inside that archive too but that is another story) to collect my one larger file and place it in an DVD iso image then burn it with say AmiDVD to my DVDR?

I'm just trying to save myself that tinkering journey with trying this and that, I enjoy this but I don't have the time I used too...

Anybody strike this type of problem and overcome it somehow without cutting up your files?

I have used AmiDVD to make image files for DVDs. The image must be saved on an SFS or JXFS partition. (Unfortunately AmiDVD doesn't seem to like my DVD writer, so I still have to use Frying Pan to burn it.)

Ah, I forgot that AmiDVD could construct it's own images... Just seems a little strange that the file size comes up negative when you try select a file in AmiDVD that is 2.2g or over when burning on the fly... I have a horrible feeling it probably won't work because of this... I'll look into this shortly though... thanks for pointing me in that direction...

i 've just made a test on pegasos/os4.1 using amidvd.
the disk is formated with sfs and the dvd is the optiarc ad 7173a.
i create an iso of 695 mp3 files up to 3.7gb and then i burn it.
the whole process went fine.

You misunderstand; I am talking about burning single files (which in this case happens to be a movie file) of more than 2.2 gigs in size each... not creating an image from numerous mp3s ranging from 4-12 megs in size...

The filesize limit of the ISO9660 filesystem is 4GB.

Unless AmiDVD also supports creating and burning UDF images then you won't be able to use it to burn files >4GB.

IIRC mkisofs can create UDF image files. You could burn these with AmiDVD but I don't think the OS4 port of mkisofs has large file support so it won't help you either.

A BIT OT here,but when compiling programs with the latest sdk. Shoudln't they automatically have large file support? When the original sources supports that? Or do you need to add some compiler options?

I mucked around for ages with this distribution... The older versions had AmigaOS support built in but the recent one at the time didn't... but I hand patched it and got it all to compile but regardless cdrtools didn't work the way I wanted it too... I could burn 1.7 gig DVDs I remember but that wasn't my focus at that time... I can't recall what I was trying to do... LOL

Perhaps running a configuration script will auto detect it and switch it on etc and you won't need to -D_Large_File or similair manually... but it doesn't take much anyway to search the or script and tweak it to ones needs...

Not much happening on this front, that I can see. A lot of the tools that could use large files are still missing them.

What's already working:
- ctorrent
- lxsplit (tried a 3 GB file)

I just tried creating an iso from a 2,203,912,192 byte xvid avi file with amidvd but when I mounted it it was corrupted, trying to play the fle resulted in a "not enough data" error. I suggest you report this to joerg directly and see if he'll fix AmiDVD for large file support.

One the plus side it created the iso image in a fraction of a second ;)
