Hi,

I have converted to the AmiDARK Engine an old demo I've made several years ago on DarkBASIC Professional.

Everything is here :

Kindest Regards,

Archive seems to be corrupt.

I've tried extracting it with both unarc and lha and both complain about a faulty crc/checksum on one of the image files. I've also tried redownloading the file on pc to see if it was just a faulty download.

Archive reuploaded.

I used DOpus to make .lha directly in the usb key I use to transfer files from Amiga to PC :( I think the problem was here.
Archive relhaed and reuploade. Now file is ok :)

Do you have latest Amiga OS 4.1u2 installed ?
Which graphic card do you have and which Amiga model ?
Do you have defined 640x480x32 bits display mode ?

Yes.

Sam440 with built-in gfx card.

Yes.

What happens is that a black screen briefly appears, and then a GrimReaper windows starts to appear on Workbench before the entire machine locks-up.

P.S. The "Thumb.db" file in the archive is Read Protected, and this causes some problems, especially with Filer's thumbnail generation (crashaes).

For me it runs, all is fine, but on exit i have GR. Ignore DSI give more heavy GR, which cant be ignored and only reboot are help. I think its still the same problem which i have with newer versions of amidark. And i think its the same problems for Crhis and Murakami (on amiga-ng.org) about which we talk with you few days ago.

But demo itself looks pretty nice. Very shadowthebeast :) And its very smooth. Hope you (with our help) can fix all that bugs , and we can make some nasty demos :)

A bit offtopic, but did you use thums in Filer ?:) Its not too slow to be usable for now ?:)

Yes I use thumbnail previews in Filer. It creates thumbnails in background (asynchronously), so no problem. BTW, I have "Accelerate icons" ticked in prefs, as that can help with (IIRC) DefIcons.

This file "thumb.db" can be removed. It's my Windows that create it :(
I will try the demo on my Sam440EP board today to see if it crash ( I develop on the Sam440Flex )

@Kas1e:
Maybe.
When the engine will be a bit more advanced, I'll ask for 2 or 3 "free" beta testers so I'll release to them DEBUG versions of the engine so it should be easier for me to find from where the problems came.

I just had a look, but got no audio, which I solved by installing the ptplayer and medplayer libs. You might want to include these libs in the next archive that you make, or at least let people know about them in a "readme" file.

Medplayer library requires mem-handler installed. Anybody with crashes should check these if they're installed.

When you not have mem-handler, then medplayer.library will say you before crash that you dont have mem-handler (tested before). That mean our crashes not because of that :( (my ones for sure:) )

What is strange is that I open MED library only if a med music is asked (checking ) ... and it apparently request the med library even if no .med file is loaded ... don't understand why ...
Concerning the crashs... I don't know what can cause them because on many Amiga OS 4.1 it work and some others it don't work and apparently each are 4.1u2 + Latest MiniGL ... Strange ...

I have neither medplayer.library nor mem-handler installed on my ?A1 and the demo runs without problems.

Hi @salass00

Same here! I have no idea what the blab is about. The audio output is SDL. I have CBMeek's SDLBasic version of this demo and it runs perfect too and has all the six song files.

If no sound , install medplayer.library + mem-handler (for meds) and ptplay.library + ptreplay.library (for mods).

@Snuffy
You are wrong, that demo not use SDL for sound at all. Amidark plays mods over ptreplay.library + ptplay.library , and plays meds over medplayer.library + mem-handler.

@Freddix
I think it ask for medplayer (even if you not use it), because imho you have it opened in AmiDark on the init state maybe ?

Also imho you need add checking in AmiDark on "If no xxxx.library are present, then spawn a window with words "please install xxxx.library" and do correct exit from program). (to avoid problems with not understanding why no sound here and alt).

I found how to stop crashes, and get your demo to play! The answer is:

Get rid of MedPlayer.library, PtPlayer.library & PtReplay.library from Libs! If I then add MedPlayer back, then same problem happens. Alternatively, if I add PtPlayer & PtReplay back, then the GrimReaper reports that the demo crashed with "DSI Status (dsisr) : 0x00000000". The stack trace shows:
module SOTBeastScroll.exe at 0x6F80C3A4 (section 5 @ 0x2384)
module SOTBeastScroll.exe at 0x6F823F30 (section 5 @ 0x19F10)
module SOTBeastScroll.exe at 0x6F80A39C (section 5 @ 0x37C)
module SOTBeastScroll.exe at 0x6F824A88 (section 5 @ 0x1AA68)
native kernel module newlib.library.kmod+0x00001f4c

Seems to me that you may not be opening/closing or using these libraries correctly. Note that I have:
medplayer.library 7.0 (19928 bytes)
ptplay.library 2.6 (40824 bytes)
ptreplay.library 6.6 (8048 bytes)

BTW, did you rip those graphics from Shadow of the Beast?
