Screen Promotion with OS4
Just popping in
Just popping in

See User information
I remember reading somewhere that OS4 is equipped to "substitute" screen calls from selected programs, to help gain compatibility with classic stuff that might run.

Where can I find more information on this?

When many classic programs open on my Micro-AOne, the screens are often distorted and have large parts unreachable. Should I assume these are fakenative modes that are not configured properly?

I'm tempted to delete all the screenmodes that I don't use regularly, just to try and force programs into using screens that I can actually see.

Any suggestions are welcomed!

Thanks,
LyleHaze

I think it's better to try the OS4 own screen promotion
before some other tools, you can find it in the Prefs
drawer it's name is 'Screens' (if I remember right)

On the final CD, there is a directory called Documentation. Look in Documentation/Intuition, the Screen prefs doc is called ScreenEditor. I've alway been meaning to print all those docs out as there's a lot of good info in there.

I have always found the Screens prefs a bit on the flakey side. You used to be able to set up custom settings but now [since update pre4 to be exact] if you try you get errors saying that it cannot open the GUI or Palette prefs.

Also if you have a look on the Vista Pro thread on AWN, ModePro seems to be able to get mode promoting to work when the Screens fails.

Even stranger some can promote using Screens and others (like myself) can't.

ModePro does do the business when using Screens fails but I would like one less hack in the system and just use OS4 supplied solutions.

I wish they had put all this documentation in Amiga Guide format though. Reading through a huge text file is not a good way to do things.

Thanks to everybody..
The "Screens" tool is just what I needed.

Now if I can figure out how to keep getting DSI's from
the audio.device, I might get another great classic
application running!

Thanks again, it was finding the documents for it that
I needed.

One of the things that I LOVE about the Amiga community is the willingness of nice people to help out.

Indeed, we should have him write an updated doc file for it.
