Recording onto HD via USB

Anyone had any joy recording audio via the USB port?

I'm trying to record my vinyls (well, I am OLD Amigan) and of course I'd rather use my A1 than my Mac.
There's a good bit of excellent software to do things to the recordings once you've got them, but how to get them onto the hard drive via the USB port?

That's a situation I know well (I have several thousand records, and I've only needle-dropped a few hundred :) ).

Bizarrely, there's only one Amiga that as far as I know can record through USB, and that's the classic. If you use a Deneb, you can use USB audio cards. Unfortunately, the Deneb is the only USB 2 capable card (which is necessary for USB audio).

Maybe someone can prove me wrong, though...? It's possible also that the Deneb's USB audio doesn't support recording, I don't know, but the hardware can (and I think the software can too).

Just had a thought about what I'm trying to do here. It's all down to this isochronous data transfer. I guess I should have known that after a few threads on the subject not that long ago.

The irony is that I've got a lo-fi with a record deck, too(well, hi-fi is a bit wasted on my ears and my old records), so I guess I'll be using the headphone output from that into my soundcard.

I was at one point going to transfer my old vinyl records to mp3's. I re-wired my mic input on my case to the line-in on the micro's audio header. I dl'ed AHIRecord (os4 version) off Aminet to record the line-in audio, I monitored the line-out audio. It worked, but there was no easy way to record individual songs. The recording was in AIFF format, so MakeCD could have burned the songs to disk. I also had to buy a cheap little phono preamp to boost the sound, but everything worked with the tests I did, just never had the time to do any transfers.

Look, only one leg, count em, one!

Don't underestimate the sound those old records give... you'd be surprised what they produce if you can give them a good turntable....

The sound is great when plug in to my Mac. The deck is an Accoustic Solutions SP132. It's probably bottom of the range but that's far better than you used to get with all-in-one music systems, etc. Proper S-shaped tone-arm, balanced, anti-skating, etc. It's got selectable USB or phono out.

It's certainly got better quality output than my hearing warrants!

I'd use the phone into the linein or mic (depending on the level the phono's kick out) on my sound card, using mixer to set the mic level if needed. then use SoundFX to record and chop up the tracks.

Ps. I hate the new amigans website. <shudder>
