[FIXED] Installing XAD_7z extension problems

I've already installed XAD 7z extension for use with UnArc in the past, but UnArc still not recognize any .7z archive.

Downloaded and installed it again now, but still nothing.

Do I have to alter something else too?

I fixed that, by renaming the file's extension to .7zip.

Probably you have to clone def_7zip in ENVARC:Sys/ to another one like def_7z to work the other way.

Yes, that's what I did exactly.

There's one in the archive. Only thing is you have to add 7zip to DefIcons manually (as per the .readme), as there is no way of automating this.

I've just checked my DefIcons and I have an entry for 7z... not sure if I added that or it was already there, so there might be a naming descrepency.

You're right. There must me a definition in Deficons prefs for the file to be recognized. I think some people may have the icon but not the definition because they D/L Mason icons (which I think includes the 7zip icon) and added the icon without realizing that it also needs to be added to DefIcons prefs.

As far I'm concerned, I never altered my deficons prefs for 7z, so I assume that this was at the beginning.

Maybe a dumb question, but:

Wouldnt it be sufficient to alter the existing .7zip deficon?

I mean, using the pattern "#?(.7zip|7z)".

This should do the trick, too, and you dont need to maintain two nearly identical deficons for 7zip-archives.
