oh please please tell me your HP Laserjet Colour is the 2600n !...if it is it will solve my USB printing problems with OS4.1...fingers crossed oh & what driver are you using and what settings too
I remember looking at a ?600n, but I don't remember whether it was 2600 or 3600. Whichever, I suspect it wasn't PostScript enabled, which was my primary concern. Or else it was just black and white.
I remember having to find an appropriate PPD file to use it with PageStream (HP_Color_LaserJet_2605.ppd 69019bytes) but I don't remember exactly why. Everything else seems to be able to access it by virtue of Printer preferences, Printer device unit: Unit 0 (no name), Printer driver: PostScript, Port device: usbprinter.device, Port unit: 0.
actually it has nothing to do with the hub but the fact my current HP Laserjet 1012 is a DOT4 printer and hence why I started this whole thread ...I know rwo is working on getting the USB driver for DOT4 printers working but in the mean time I saw a HP Colour Laserjet 2600n for sale used and was hoping that it would work under OS4.1 without the need of rwo's driver??
@kilaueabart
thanks for the info but it would really help me if you can try to find out if it was in fact the 2600n as I have an oportunity to buy a used one locally (see above) but won't bother if I know it wont work under OS4.1
@328gts Whether it was a 2600n or a 3600n, I wouldn't know whether it would work for sure without looking at the box it comes in, or finding info on line.
What I found out there by looking at "technical specifications" is that there is no reason to believe it would work. Nothing about it doing PostScript, which is the key thing for me. Worse yet, maybe, is the line
Printer Features Host-based
I take that to mean that everything is done from an .exe program installed on a PC, although I could most certainly be wrong.
Works well under OS4.1 update 2, check you have phone settings for the PC connections set to mass storage mode. You can copy files to and from the phone's memory including MP3s, videos, photos. I have a 4GB MicroSD card installed in my Genio.
Videos recorded using the Genio's built-in camera play in MPlayer, which play fine directly over the USB connection without copying videos across to the HD first.
Make sure you close all the Genio's drawers on Workbench before disconnecting (and of course wait for any file copying etc to finish), otherwise Workbench complains of disk errors.
The phone will also happily charge off the Sam440's front USB which is handy.
Please put up mobilephone HTC Legend (android 2.1) on the list of working. I can access the memorycard from OS4 as partition (masstorage).
This is really lovely as my previous LG KM900 Arena didnt work. It did recognise it but wouldnt show any partition. I will probably keep my LG so i can try it out with next update of amigaos4.x and also as spare phone if something happens with my Legend.
Try copying a 1GB movie to/from a usb stick & go take a nap.
Two more working with usb, Canon Power Shot A590IS & Sony Microvault 4GB stick.
I have very good cooling on my micro, so overclocked to 867MHz for 3 days not long ago. Everything seemed to work fine until I tried my Sony stick, it would not read. Same with my camera, it stopped loading thumbs. Changed back to 800MHz & both worked again. Makes me think a lot of usb problems are h/w more then s/w.
Look, only one leg, count em, one! X1000/PA6T@1800MHz/2Gb/Radeon 4850
One more to add. Pentax K-x, (PTP and Massstorage). Whith the SAM at 800, the photos are loaded very fast at Max Resolution in JPG, and dcraw extracts the RAW format quickly and easy.
AmigaOne X5000 OS4.1 FEU1 And Lubuntu 10.04 1200 towered with Blizzard PPC - BVision and Mediator And a new fantastic Chameleon64
I now have a LaCie 1TB external USB hard drive (it's only a "marketing terabyte"). I have formatted it with JXFS and it seems to work perfectly with the current version of AmigaOS. With USB 1.1, though, it took a full weekend to backup my system and I didn't have the patience to verify the backup (I use md5sum on everything).
lucky you as my old HP LaserJet 1012 won't work at all with rwo's latest driver at os4depot...still hoping for an update on that driver soon (i & others have sent him some info last year)...maybe for the update 3 (or dare I say 4.2!)
@ robo-ant
thanks for the info..cool to know (ughh a whole weekend eh...man we are a patient bunch for USB2.0 aren't we )
The main reason I chose this drive over other ones when I went shopping was that it actually says "USB 1.1 compatible" on the box. Some others were emblazoned with "USB 3" but with no mention of USB 1.1, I thought they were too risky.
Also, I know that other LaCie USB drives work with AmigaOS.
