I meant either using the wb as x root or treating each window as it's own x screen displayed in a window. Most windows x-windows servers has that option for example.

Would go a far way to make x apps feel more native.

Calling it "impossible" seems a bit odd since it's quite common.

Tons of snapshots here using that mode: http://x.cygwin.com/screenshots/

Ah - o.k., then I misunderstood the question. A X server window on the workbench should not be too difficult. And
opening an own window for every program is only a little bit more work. But the so called Multi-Window mode is hard
to implement.

> And about GTK wrapper: it's still alive?

Don't know. Didn't hear something about it for months.

When I say impossible, I mean impossible for me. There is always a way you can go, you only need enough time and
knowledge.
As said above, opening a X server window on the workbench - like Xami does - is not the problem. But a Multi-Window
mode is far beyond my skills.
If someone wants to try this (seriously!), I can send him the X server sources.

a Windowed version is enough. So we can use all X11 programs on top of OS4 one. maybe could be an user choice

It took me awhile too learn that the 'back' gadget is functional between OS4 WB and X11!

is the gui toolkit Qt ported?
could things like this be ported?

DiskImagery64 0.7 released

DiskImagery64 is a portable (Qt 4.2.x-based), open-source D64 disk image editor for Mac, Linux and Windows. It offers a nice GUI with drag-and-drop support between disk images and the local file system. Runs programs or mounts images directly in your favorite emulator. RR-Net support is available and allows to transfer programs and disk images directly to your real C64.

Main Feature in 0.7: Added full WarpCopy64 support. Warp/slow read/write disk images directly from/to real disks. Send DOS Commands, format or verify disks.

Grab it here: http://www.lallafa.de/blog/

Qt isn't ported yet, but it is possible. Had already a look at it.
But I don't want to continue at the moment, because first I
want to finish GTK / Gnome and add some features to the basic
package.

Nice program. With Qt it should be possible to port it. But if no
other tries to port Qt, you have to be patient

How difficult would it be to achieve copy-paste of text between X11 and Amiga apps? E.g. if I have an email and want to paste some text into a text editor inside X11 or want to copy a URL into a web browser running in X11.

To be honest - I don't know. One of the problems is, that there are several clipboard systems under X. I have to
do some research first.
But I must agree, this would be an important feature for a better usability.

@afxgroup

I will publish the most sources together with the next release. But it would not be necessary to implement this
feature - I did not make much changes to this part.

Indeed, it'd be even more important than using the native OS windows IMHO and probably less work too. Even Shapeshifter (the good old Mac emulator) let you copy-paste between Mac and Amiga apps so I'm sure it'd be doable for X11.

Copy and paste also works fine in fusion , Rdesktop , Vnc etc.

it's released!! :D

it's REALLY easy to install. double click the installer.
reboot.
double click the start script.
and there you are.

i am really impressed with this release, feels fast and
it looks way nicer!...

Will you upload new versions of gimp etc, or are the old
ones still valid?

MEGA thanx to you Edgar! *Smooch!*

What we need now is a small tutorial on how to port things
to this thingie.
Could you write a small step by step guide for some small app maybe?

Yes, it was time to implement a better desktop.

You can still use the old version, only localisation will not work. But I think you don't need it.

I have to make an update of my SDK first. With the old one you can't compile GTK 2 applications.
Don't know, when I will have the time to write a tutorial, but I know, that it is necessary.

the new version of cygnix seems very nice ..
simple to start.. runs nice and all..

i have a question if i want to add more fonts, how should i do ?
i have two TTF fonts here, i would like to add them in Xwindow so i could use them.
how do i recreate the font cache?
where do i have to put the ttf files?

i will try to see if i can compiles some programs..
i haven't looked at the docs yet,
is there's some examples about the compile options, flags and how to compile with xxxx lib support and that kind of thing?
basicaly how do we compile stuffs for cygnix?

thanks for all the hard work!

Please put your font into "Cygnix:Home/root/.fonts". Afterwards call in a shell "fc-cache". This will update your caches.
This is described in the NEWS section of "Cygnix.guide".

To compile apps for Cygnix, you need the Cygnix SDK togehter with the OS4 SDK. But the latest Cygnix SDK does not contain the GTK 2 libs.
If you like to compile programs for GTK 1, wxWidgets or Athena, please refer to "SDK.guide", which is included in the SDK ("How to use" section).
In the next SDK I will extent this section with a step by step guide.

Have fun with Cygnix

thanks for your answers.

i tryed to put my ttf fonts into:

X11R6.3-Pre3/Home/root/.fonts/
run "fc-cache" from amiga shell and OS4 sdk's "sh/abcshell"

then i tryed another drawer:
X11R6.3-Pre3/CygnixPPC/share/fonts/truetype/
i tryed again to run fc-cache ..

fc-cache runs but after it finished, i still cannot see my fonts in gtkedit ?

i have this:

5.Apps:X11R6.3-Pre3/Home/root/.fonts> list
fonts.cache-1 9178 ----rw-d Today 13:21:52
.dummy 1 ----rwed 15-Feb-05 17:21:52
sazanami-gothic.ttf 7690324 ----rw-d 29-Jun-04 22:37:20
sazanami-mincho.ttf 10554196 ----rw-d 29-Jun-04 22:39:48
4 files - 17M bytes - 8943 blocks used
5.Apps:X11R6.3-Pre3/Home/root/.fonts>

but none of the font appear in gtkedit font selecter.
and i cannot view my files in utf8 neither in other encoding. (japanese text)
maybe i did something wrong? why the sazanami fonts doesn't appear in gtkedit font selecter ?

i look forward to test your new sdk when it will be out :)

edit: i see sazanami font were correctly added finaly.
if i choose "gtk2 theme selector" and from there select another font, i see sazanami font listed.
so maybe it's just gtkedit which cannot use gtk2 fonts?

would be nice to have gtkedit or another text editor which could use gtk2 fonts.. gtkedit is gtk1 ?

so i tested vim and amaya, they work great..
i'm starting to love cygnix :)
i can even use amaya to read slashdot (CSS support) :)

but i still have the same problem it seems,
gtk1 program don't see / can't seems to use my two ttf fonts.. is there's something we can do to enable gtk1 apps to use the font we add into cygnix ?

so fat the only program that showed them is gtk2 thene editor.

again, thank you for all the hard work!
