VNC client (or client for alternative free server for Windows 7)

Is it possible to run a VNC client, or some client eg for free VNC like alternative servers (VNC server for Windows 7 is 20 $ ) under AmiCygnix ??

I have tried VVA 68k VNC client without succes, and don't want to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro on my PC laptop, where Remote Desktop is available.

@ JosDuchIt

I've ported the VNC package from RealVNC (current version 4.1.3, http://www.realvnc.com) to AmiCygnix. Didn't make deeper tests, but the client works fine so far. Also a simple server for X11 is working, but not very useful.

I can create a package, if it is interesting for you.

Right now i am trying out TwinVNC, from the doc it should not only work with (Real)VNC but also with TightVNC (don't know if the server is free)
I am using a VNC server which can be used free for 30 days.
I have also written a mail to Microsoft Belgium asking them if Remote DeskTop can be made available for Windows Home edition premium.
So my options are still open and if your package would be ready within the 25 next days, i certainly would test it out too.

From the TwinVNCdocumentation, it appears that Amiga Servers for VNC are also available. I will probably test them out too and see if i can acces them from my e-book Nook color (rooted now as an Androïd tablet)

Tests with TwinVNC client negative till now (with Real VNC PC server that is) Real VNC support tells me that the client should be RFB 4.1 compatible. It's doc tells me it is 3.8 compatible. Waiting for a response of the author about this. Maybe it is still compatible with other VNC like servers mentioned in its doc. Waint for this to eventually test an other server.

I suppose your port is compatible with 4.1, so my interest is growing. Can you make it available within my 24 days of testtime left?

TwinVNC works OK when the VNC server is set to "preferred no encryption"

AmiVNC4 server freezes. The mail adress of its author does not work, but the source is in the archive however.

Real VNC support suggested to not use data transfer encryption.

TwinVNC works OK that way as does VVA with Real VNC server.
Going to look after free VNC like servers for Windows 7

I'm the current maintainer of AmiVNC4.

It was a while since I used it but if you could try to produce a log file from AmiVNC4 it might help me fix the freeze.

@Deniil

I checked again ; it was no freeze, i just saw nothing happen.
I did find more info here http://s.guillard.free.fr/(tooltypes) used the verbose mode and had acces to t:AmiVNC.log

AmiVNC is listening Ok

I tried to connect with Androïd AndFTP, no luck till now

Would be nice to have a template when launching from shell
I made (copied) an icon to remind me of the tooltypes.
(PORT=xx)
VERBOSE
(LIMIT=xx)
(LOGFILE=<name>)
(PRESTART=<command>. %s will be replaced by client IP address.)
(POSTSTOP=<command>. %s will be replaced by client IP address.)
(VVA)
(DELAY=xx)

As AmiVnc does not open a window, i don't see how you could close it.

General question: Isn't there some shell command to read the tooltypes and launch AmiVNC with a script ?
