This is what I have found so far, if anyone has any more, links please post here.

Must say, some of the articles are really shoddy though.

It was on slashdot on Sunday, linking to an AmigaWorld Forum post:

It was mentioned on OSNews as well.

Mixture of positive and 'not-so-positive' reviews of the Amiga X1000, everyone seems positive about a NetBook though - as I would expect.

I did the same question at amiga.org:
1st of all: I'm an Amiga fan and I will buy the netbook when it cames out. Not x1000 (mainly due to the size of it. I don't have free space for another huge desktop).

I'm able to understand perfectly why x1000 costs too much. Developing a project like that from scratch really costs a lot of money.

Question is: Even for the Amigans market (which is almost nothing when compared to mainstream) few people would spend ~2.000 pounds for a x1000. So, how the hell you guys were able to convince a venture capitalist to FUND the production of x1000????

No convincing was necessary, he has a rather large amiga collection.

So, he's using his own money? WOW! :)
I'm happy he did it, and very excited but... That's really an extremely risky investment!

I noticed looking at the Slashdot link there was a lot of disinformation being spread about. I think people are confusing Hyperion with our dear friends C=USA, as they are saying things like "it'll end up a re-badged Dell", when we know that's impossible.

That said, some of the people there are just pure bona-fide morons, especially the people who seem to think that just because they've stopped using AmigaOS, it should somehow deserve to die entirely and that Hyperion are some kind of criminal organisation for keeping it alive.

I think things will change when the netbook actually comes out though... but at the moment people outside the community associate Amiga with Commodore (USA) and are fed up of vapourware and empty announcements.

That's strange. Why would anybody think Hyperion is organized?

Without naming names (and I have many to mention, well known too), we know that it's actually, errrrr, deliberate....

Support Amiga Fantasy cases!!!
How to program: 1. Start with lots and lots of 0's. 10. Add 1's, liberally.

At the price of the X1000 he mustn't be planning on selling many.
Will be lucky to even get any of his money back.
He saw the SAMS hardly selling at the price they have on those boards so he thinks the higher price will bring more people his way?

Rolls-Royce don't sell many cars either, but they (usually!) make a profit.

There's a market out there for people who want the best, no matter what the cost... and that includes the X1000.

First-quarter sales of Rolls-Royce brand motor cars more than doubled to 723 units (2010: 279 units). The Ghost remains particularly successful, with almost 3,000 units sold since its market launch. During the quarter under report, the Ghost recorded a sales volume of 566 units (2010: 158 units). The Phantom also registered sharp growth (+60.6%) with 106 units sold in the period under report (2010: 66 units).

It's called niche market, where customers are not too price sensitive.

But the x1000 is a completely different story.
I just said that: IF Trevor had to convince a venture capitalist to put money on the venture, he would have to prove through a BP that all the investments made to build a custom machine from scratch, that's supposed to use an OS that's not yet complete with just a few SW for it would be able to generate enough revenue to pay itself assuming a nice margin and the cost of the money.

The investments seems huge to me (creating a new MOBO and stuff) and the potential customers are also limited to:
People
People who would buy technology
People who would buy a computer
People who would buy a desktop
People who would buy a desktop that's actually a modern version of the former Amiga
People who would pay ~2k pounds for it

When I used to work at HP R&D Labs (long time ago), prototype machines were listed at around 40.000/50.000 USD on the customs invoice.
So, 2k pounds actually sounds cheap for a machine built for that niche.

Absolutely. If Trevor were trying to convince a venture capitalist, he wouldn't have a whelk's chance in a supernova, the risks are WAY too high.

Luckily, Trevor IS the venture capitalist. :)
