Has Quake 1 ever worked properly on your machine?

I suggest that you try adjusting Quake 1's settings, because the driver is only doing what it's been told to do. In particular, have a look at the vsync setting (which I assume that it has).

Thanks. That confirms what I suspected, that it has nothing to do with the driver at all.

While I do want to hear about driver bugs, I wish that people weren't so quick to blame the drivers. Even when I was working on MiniGL, all too often I ended up debugging someone else's code because they were convinced that it was MiniGL/Warp3D's fault. I realise that it isn't always easy to narrow down the cause, but please try nevertheless.

Can you roll back to a previous version of the driver and try again?

Wouldn't 1280x1024 in software render be too slow no matter how fast graphics write you get?

The vblank code was broken in the previous version of the driver, and it might have helped with this game. If that is the case, then it's still Quake 1's fault, and I still recommend that you try adjusting the settings. In particular, if there is a vsync option, set it to off.

Additionally, what other changes have you made to your machine since the last time that you played? For example, did you disable DMA in Picasso96 as discussed here? If so, then try re-enabling it. Disabling DMA significantly slows down the speed at which software rendered graphics (you're using the software renderer, right?) gets copied to VRAM.

If there is no Picasso96 folder in ENV or ENVARC, then you didn't disable DMA, and so there is nothing to switch back on. Otherwise, you would set that ENV var to 1.** That still leaves the question: what else did you change/upgrade since you last played?

Have you tried temporarily downgrading to the previous RadeonHD driver yet (don't forget to reboot)? That would help you confirm or eliminate that as a cause.

Hans

** NOTE: Picasso96/UseDMA isn't the only DMA related var that could be set. See the original thread (linked in my previous post) for more.

Are you 100% sure? When was the last time that you played Quake 1 on this machine? Was your system at update 4 at the time?

Sorry to be labouring this point, but sometimes things get overlooked that can be important.

ik tried the previous update and its the same so it has worked with the driver that came with update 2 with my amigaone 500.

futher i didnt changed anything.

maybe that this info helps that it worked with my 4.1 update 2 and 3 radeondrivers i had no problems only had to change the sound rate to play it i had to set it up to 48000hz instead 22050, but i did that with parameter of quake audspeed and played it and installed the addon packs also.

so as far i can see it occured since 0.27 update.

Okay, I'll wait until you have tried rolling back the driver to an older version.
