using .flv files with def_icons

I wonder if someone could tell me hoe to launch .flv files in mplayer automatically.

I have edited the def_flv ivon in env_arc/sys to the location of MPlayer.
I have added flv to the video section of prefs/def_icons.
I selected 3 .flv files and selected learn in prefs/Def_icon
Rebooted my system and it's not working.

If I launch MPlayer (from Amidock) i can drag'n'drop an flv file and it plays ok, I just can't seem to get MPlayer to be launched when I double click an flv file.

Just as an example, if I double click on an avi file DvPlayer launches automatically and startes playing the avi file. I would like to do the same with flv (youtube) files.

I am obviously doing something wrong, and would be gratefull if someone could help.

1) Grab "runicon" from OS4 Depot (http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?fun ... ity/workbench/runicon.lha), and copy it to C:
2) Set your .flv def_icon to have have "runicon" as the "Default tool"
3) In the .flv def_icon "Tool types" try copying the following line:
RUN=Work:MPlayer/MPlayer/mplayer "%s" -vo cgx_wpa

(Make sure to adjust the path and arguments to fit your MPlayer installation and preferences.)

Do you see your def_flv icon with FLV files under Workbench?

Maybe you can start with "easy" DefIcon definition for flv files, like only:
PATTERN #?.flv

Is the path in the def_flv icon right? (APPDIR:mplayer or something alike)

Can you point as which FLV file are? Normally I use CLipDonw to dl youtube and such file, mostly in FLV format and had no problems viewing them.

I have in DefIcons prefs: MATCH 0,"FLV"
case sensitive: OFF/disabled

I don't have a def_flv.info icon, it uses the MAIN_CLASS video icon def_video.info, it's a Project icon Stack 32768, Tool:APPDIR:Mplayer

It's not the muimplayer, just the "old" normal mplayer (os4depot)

Okay. here's how to do it.

To start cleanup. Delete or rename your ENVARC:sys/def_flv.info

Open deficon prefs and remove the entry for flv.


Now:


Open a workbench drawer containing a flv file.

Ensure the flv file has no icon allready. Select display all files. You'll see a whuite default project icon.


Goto deficons prefs.

Click select the video entry. And click on Add, this should add a <new> entry to the video section, if it adds as a subitem of any other item, remove it and make sure you really had the video entry slected.

Set the pattern of <new> to PATTERN #?.flv and rename it to flv.

Return to your workbench window. Select Update from the menu, now your flv file should show with a video icon.

Open the icon information window and selet the icon tab.

Change the tooltype to Appdir:mplayer (or the absolute path to the mplayer you want to us) set the icon start from to SHELL. Deselect prompt for input.

From the menu choose save as default flv. Then cancel the icon information window.

Then go back to to your workbench window with the flv file and select update from the window menu again.

Now double click on your icon

Updates:

You can also choose start from Workbench (I was playing safe with SHELL) then you won't get any console opening with uneed textual info. That probably speeds video play up slightly.

That work's brilliantly, especially the from workbench option, it get's rid og the output window.

When from the menu choosing save as default flv, the icon information window automatically closes.

After setting it up as you describe, and looking at the def_flv icon, and the def_icons entry, they appear to be the same as I had set up manually, but it didn't work then, your way does.
