Should Amiga OS4.x runs on Mac with PPC?

See User information
This is a good question and I think that yes, it will be to an alternative to get more Amiga users, and currently this hardware has good price, is good although is the second hand, but there are many Amiga users that bough these computers when there aren't new Amiga hardware, these users will can return to Amiga. And not the other Amiga system that runs on Mac PPC gets to do the same things that doing the Amiga OS4.1.

I'll buy this Amiga OS4 for Mac PPC machines.

Which is a good thing because releasing os4 for old macs would in one stroke destroy the entire market for new os4 machines which by their nature have to be expensive.

We would have no Sam, no netbook and definitely no x1000. No thankyou. We need to encourage people like Trevor and Acube, not stab them in the back.

AMEN!

Why kill the future for the sake of a dead end path of
old, used hardware?

And you how many sams or X1000 have you?
Because is very easy speak but free, I have two Sams, but neither I say not to Mac PPCs, well also I have one.
But we don't forget that not all people can spend 800-1500 euros, and we need users and people developt and buying software and others hardwares as Amiga OS and cards.

It seems Hyperion is strongly attached to Acube and A-EON in these terms of OS 4 for new hardware only. Classic version and Pegasos versions were so far only exceptions, but seems intent was to spread OS and develop funds for further progress here.

While PPC Macs are nice, if OS4 is ever to go that way,it would be nice to see OS 4.2 or further for Playstation 3 - quite more powerful then most of Macs.

And I say desktop G4, someone else G5, someone else mini.
So a port to one only would bring naught but complaints from people with something else and only perhaps a few customers to Hyperion.

Now if someone wants to pay to have AmigaOS on each PPC Mac, then that may be a different story.

Who has the bucks?

Anyone?

The AmigaOS 4 devs have enough to do without adding even more new hardware to support. Trying to take on too many projects only results in all of them progressing at a snail's pace. People are already waiting for a whole list of improvements such as 3d support for Radeon HD cards, all of which would be delayed.

Let's let them improve the OS and support for existing hardware instead of inventing new projects that will only slow them down.

NO !

I supported both ACube and A-Eon for developing new and modern hardware to run my favourite Operating System and am so grateful to them both for keeping the dream alive!

@ Antique

+1, if we had absolutely zero hardware today then I would admit to defeat and port to old Mac's

I rather see Hyperion supporting "in production" HW.

For some third party, go ahead and continue where Moana left out.
I'm sure it would mean more work than building support for any future HW, unless the HAL is done by someone who knows PPCMacs already, like the MOS team. Or perhaps it could be done via AOS4 sandbox, like ABox & QBox in MOS.
I'm pretty sure Hyperion+ACube+Amikit would not mind getting extra AOS4 SW sales, just like with the peg2 version.
(previously the R&D was stopped by AmigaInc, IIRC)

btw. just noticed that I have not booted up my MosMini for a year, lack of time is the reason.

No thanks. The Apple PPC machines are old and they will eventually disappear, no support and no availability, no thanks.

A new batch of X1000 machines are being produced and ACube is cooking something so nope leave them for MOS users

I think i would say both yes and no. If there were alot of this hardware it would probably make both acube and x1000 to sell much less, if you find macs cheap. I dont really know how much is out there.

We would ofcourse get more users, even mos users could get os4 for it. However this would mean even more work on the OS4 to get it to work on all that machines. And i dont want os4 to halt.

Som im really splitted. But my principle goes the more users the happier i am :)

Working only on dead-end technology (i.e. PowerMacs) is just that - a dead end.

It's been noted several times on A.org and places about how whenever the MOS people release a build that works on a "new" machine, there's a spike in the number of registrations. But what will they do when they've already supported all the platforms they can?

Secondly, while they (the MOS guys) are busy playing catch-up with all the Mac platforms, it's taking time away from developing the OS. With AOS we've seen a lot of advances in the core of the OS, because the Friedens have worked on that rather than trying to support 100 platforms.

Definitely, 100%, glad there's no PowerMac support. It'd be a big mistake. Sure, it'd attract more users in the short-term, but in the long term....?

There is only one solution to do a Mac version. This version of OS4 would have to be sold at a higher price, something like 200 EUR instead of 120 EUR (VAT included).
This would allow to help the extra-development of this version. But of course, in this case a lot of people would not understand the price difference between all versions :-/

For 200 € you almost get a new PC with Windows-License... Of course such prices will noone understand.

And how want you persuade new customers? You only have to buy old outdated Mac-Hardware and only 200 € for the OS? Or do you seriously think that MorphOS-Users will spend 200 € just for using AmigaOS on their computers?

I wonder how AOS4.1 is afforded to be sold for 100EUR to Peg2 or AmigaClassic but not for imagenary supportonappleHWsandboxthingy.

IMHO, it mainly would need someone other than Hyperion to do or pay for the compatibility thing (HAL etc). That someone might want some kind of payment for their work, though.
