Re: Should Amiga OS4.x runs on Mac with PPC?

PPC is dead on desktop and X1000 is the prime example of it. Look at its' features: dual core, ddr2, PCIe, SATA2, usb2 etc. All these may sound uber cool for AmigaOS however, they are below the lowest entry point of todays x86. Needless to say that the first cost circa 3.000 usd while the latter 300 usd (the price difference is way too notable, imho).

Regarding G5 support, it depends on workload of devels in coordination with Hyperion's priorities, I suppose.

If I would have to make a wild bet, I would gamble that after the next 2 years, AmigaOS might be the only OS running on the obselete ppc platform from all the three OSes we have in current amiga land.

@Antique
The main problem IMO isn't PPC speed as for example the X1000 should be fast enough for most of us. The main problem is that we need HW specifically built for AmigaOS4 in batches so small that the HW price is 10x of what comparable X86 HW is.

Lots of people can't afford to get into AmigaOS4 and many of those who got the money won't/can't justify the cost.

I personally don't understand this fixation with processor speed.
I have a Sam which runs at 600Mhz and works fine. My A1 is still easily fast enough. If you're not running games, there are other things more important, and power consumption and passive cooling is one of them, as is general efficiency of the system.

Just PPC is slower than x86 doesn't make it dead any more than it makes ARM dead - and nobody in their right mind would claim that ARM was dead.

This is turning into just another rehash of the same age-old "discussion" and is going nowhere.

In light of this, I'm locking this thread to save those of us that are fed-up with said nonsense.

It's had its chance, but some things just don't change.
