Glad you got things working to some extent. AHIRecord sometimes leaves AHI in a state that prevents music play. I've been rebooting after experimenting with recording. Let us know if you find a microphone that works better.

Not too shy to talk

If you have a low mic in level, try in MIXER, there's a knob that controls the mic input, and it's very low by defect.

Are you getting reasonable recording levels that way?
