hello, Daz, what do you mean for 'The 66mhz slot, which has the wrong connector on'? what's wrong with the pci connector? Is it possible to fix it? For the rest, I agree, no battery problem as for now on board ide works ok for me, it is setted as automatic so I don't know what pio or dma is using, is there a program that check this?
@satiropan Hi, Sorry to hear about the dead ETH3COM, did you happen to see this post: http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.b ... wtopic.php?p=17066#p17066 by @Evilllord68, some useful info about DMA on the SE including a link to a driverpack created by Stephane Guillard specifically to deal with the SE's DMA problems, ( I'm using it at the moment without any sign of trouble ) I thought that if you can improve the onboard ide's speed, that would free up a pci slot for your Ethernet card.
hi, thanx for the link. regarding the IDE, well, I have to admit that downgrading to onboard ide once I have tasted/tested the sata...it's a pity! but I won't give up. mabe could it be a u-boot issue? I have u-boot 1.1.4, I have downloaded u-boot 1.1.6, anybody has updated to this? in case, I could buy a new eprom chip and do the upgrade on it, so if it goes wrong I revert to the old one. but which type of eprom amigaone se uses? who knows
It seems to me there are several variants of the G3SE. Mine never worked properly with UDMA, but works fine 99.9% of the time with PIO (I occasionally get disk error requesters, but clicking Retry always cures them).
I agree though that it should never have made it to market. It's not a sign of a good computer that you have to fill up all your PCI slots to get basic functionality.
EDIT: The OP might want to check if the 3Com Ethernet is listed as a PCI device. PCI IDs are shown at boot, and I think there are utilities to list them in AmigaOS.
When I think about it the battery problem might be XE only problem. I think it was some thing to do whit onboard audio or something, I have not changed battery in along time, was it fixable by software?

found the problem with onboard ethernet! it's the chip that has to be reflown. in fact if I press it while I boot, the 3comm is seen, and on workbench I can happily set the interface and go to internet with no problems. now I have to decide whether reflow the chip or put some hardware device that keeps it pressed! any advice for the reflow? I have the hot air reworking station, the atten 858d+. I think I will have to thermically isolate all the surrounding components, put some form of blocking on the chip and then hot air around 420° celsius, what do you think?
so I made a reflow with my atten 858d+. in the beginning the onboard ethernet was immmediately seen by u-boot then I booted with the sata hard disk but I soon discovered: 1. the ethernet was seen but the Amiga would freeze as soon as I loaded the eth3com.device 2. the primary ide bus is no longer working 3. after many tests, the onboard ethernet was no longer seen by u-boot now I boot with sata hard disk, but I need to find a proper usb to lan adapter, one that uses the ADMTek ADM8511 chip, since I have seen this driver is present in the ethernet driver list of OS4.1 Any of you knows of a brand/model adapter that uses this chip? Or any of you knows of other usb to lan drivers? For the 3com chip, in the future I will take it off and try a reballing...... man vs machine!
now things are a little better I dismounted the board and had a close look with magnifier. I found 3 points where the green wire reworks had desoldered. I soldered them again and the whole board improved, the ide bus is again working I have found that the backup battery is at 2.99V, do you think it's ok or should be changed (for the in-famous battery problem of the amigaone)?
