Not too shy to talk

Anybody know the answer to this: Why wont the sam460 boot up past update 5 using the onboard ati graphics instead of using the graphics card? It works with update 4, but hangs after boot up. Yet, if i plug the graphics card back in again it will work right up to 6. Any ideas?

Reason being is i actually would prefer to use the onboard as the current ati graphics card is noisey as hell!:(

which kind of card do you have?

if its a radeonhd above 4xxxx series its related with the radeonhd driver that isnt the updated version thats the one youll need.

or you have to change uboot setting to pci instead onboard video

Just can't stay away

IIRC is PCIGraphics.card V53.4 fault, try to use/revert to "old" V53.3.
First check what version do you have (and post it here if you want).

The problem with ATI HD series and RadeonHD.chip is that V0.23 (or was it V0.19) doesn't recognize HD5000 and HD6000 series AFAIAK and thus you need RadeonHD.chip V0.54 (buy it from AEON website or ACube) to see your Workbench screen.

Right the graphics card I have is ati 4650. It works fine! But, I would prefer to use the onboard graphics on my sam460 but I just cant get it to boot past launching kickstart after update5. It works on update4, but will only work with my current graphics card. So either update 5 and beyond is for graphics cards only and wonnt support the onboard, or ive done something wrong:/ It does this even on a fresh update install with out the offical drivers from aeon.

As been said before. If you want to use a better gfx card than the 4000 series you need the latest radeonhd driver.
But afaik the onboard gfx card should be working with all updates. You should go to the hyperion forum and report this one if you can.

The key to solving your problem is in jabirulo's post. Specifically, this bit:

One of the PCIGraphics.card releases introduced a bug that caused trouble with the Sam460ex's on-board graphics. Either update to PCIGraphics.card version 53.5, or roll back to 53.3. To get version 53.5, install AmigaOS 4.1 update 6, and then run AmiUpdate from the Workbench menu.

P.S. I suggest getting a quieter Radeon HD card, as the Sam460ex's on-board graphics is pretty limited. There are quiet Radeon HD models.

I suggest the Sapphire Radeon HD6570 Ultimate. It have 1 GB Videomem, 256 MB are actually usable by Workbench but thats more than enough even in HD-Resolutions. Its completely passive cooled and have a good price/perfomance-Ratio.

HDMI-Out also works fine!

@Fingus I just brought the exact same card, tried it today and still no luck ! It wont go past update 6 and ive even tried booting os4.1 cd into setup it hangs at launching kickstart

Really not happy now! :(

Well I can confirm, that the Sapphire Radeon HD6570 Ultimate doesnt want to work on my machine. I have tried everything and I mean everything and nothing will work with it. Only my original 4650 card works. I'm out of ideas.

I had the same problem with my HD6570 and to solve I
just plugged the vga cable onto the onboard SM502 and boot from CD, then copy/replace with "old" PCIGraphics.card (V53.3 or V53.5 are OK) and when I got/downloaded ATI RadeonHD V0.53 (or latest available now) and replaced it too.

Did you buy the latest Radeon HD driver from A-EON like jabirulo said? If you haven't, then go do that now (link). The old driver that came with your system doesn't support anything newer than the 4xxx series.

Update: I got it working with a different ati card 5570 but not the HD 6570 :( The 6570 just goes into a black screen.
