Well, Qt is not owned by Nokia anymore, so consequently the site is not really functional. Sometimes it redirects you to qt.digia.com, and that page should look reasonable.

Works fine here? Stack? Native fonts?

Really? 10MB?? ;) Well, it works flawlessly here (I am running from an installed version of Qt, not my source archive). I am pretty sure there must be some compositing issue, if this is a general problem. What does it do when you try and start it? DSI? Lockup? Does it open a window or not? Maybe you can try and modify main.cpp so it only opens a few windows (I'm sure you can figure it out ;)) and then rebuild.

Hmm... Again it works perfectly well here, both font-wise and htting enter (should flip to the backside and show a dialog). Something is dawning on me: This does only make sense, if there is some screwed up problem with native vs. freetype fonts. Also, I had many of the executables (including designer and assistant) working before installing arial, so that points in that direction also. I will make you a fresh libQtGui with some debug output to the console to see, if it is actually using native fonts or not.

After that an uresponsive dialogue window pops up.

The imbecilles at Trolltech made a bug in this one: When being installed, the plugin goes in "plugin" instead of "plugins". Just create a "plugins" folder and copy "plugin/libechoplugin.so" into that one, then it should work.

Doesn't seem slow. If i click RMB several times many menus appear and some draws a bit wrong, and if i click it when i have several of those showing i get a crash.

Ok, that's a real bug... I forgot to check, if another popup is open before opening a new one, that's fixed in 2 secs ;)

@Alfkil

First of all, thanks for !

Unfortunely I didn't found the time (yet) to retest all examples around but i did a few test only on the example you requote and i can say that all problems are fixed and no more crash, except one

>>opengl/grabber --> It's ok now by the black backgound of the animation have some glitch that will "corrupt" the window

Note that we didn't have such graphical issue using it on beta 2

About general testing
-----------------------------------

Tested a few random examples including the browser and i noted some new problems along with old and not yet fixed glitches, well let's start with the new issue then !

- Tooltips (bubble helps) are now fixed, which means no more trunked tooltips when you point your mouse over an item, but now they have a not so cool side effect, explain: when you pass with the mouse above an item the entire window will loose its focus in favour of the bubble now, so as the window will loose the focus you will have also slowdown as a side not wanted effect

If i remember correctly we didn't have such issue on beta 2

1) - Right click (menu) expecially on the browser is completely broken in beta 3, conversely it worked fine on beta 2, please check it

2) - If you turn off the "native paiting engine" (aka use GL) the top border of the main window of the web browser is not be showed correctly, this is a small bug in GL i presume (this problem happen on beta 2 and beta 3 aswell)

3) - Tabs still a bit buggy, expecialy if you are clicking on a second tab (after you have selected another tab before) they need a double click to be opened instead of just 1 click, that means tabs will not be opened if you just click once on them

(This specific issue is present on any kind of software that use tabs for separate their content)

4) - Double Focus on an input text: Try for example to open two separate Qt windows that contain an input type, for example Calculator
You will see that the area when you can entering a number will got the focus (cursor active and blinking) on both windows rathen then only on the one selected

I think you should make the cursor active only on the active and selected window, not on both of them at the same time

5) - As you know still the usual autoalign crap on windows and sometimes some graphical glitch when you try to reduce a window at a minimal size .. this second problem is not always visible, it mostly depens on what demo/example you are testing

6) A script for downloading external fonts would be the must, apart the browser i use the internal "DejaVu Sans Condensed.font" of OS4 that is great and can make Qt very very near in look of any other native apps !

So please don't remove the native fonts, just (if possible) extend it and even better add also a small script for downloading external fonts if an application require it

7) - Argg add an iconify gadget pleeeese

Also a few ideas:

1) - As we are testing a lot of demos on each new version to test, how about adding a stack cookie, for example:

Stack 2000000 --> open with Workbench

Atleast if you do that once, we don't need to re-do that anytime we download a new big archive for test (big annoying can say !)

2) - As the archive is currently very big, how about split it in 2/3 separate parts ?

Versions for public release might look like:

Qt --> Only libs and the necessary files to handle Qt programs (smaller as possible)
Qt-Demos --> All Qt demos/examples here (big one)
Qt-SDK

For what i can see many space is taken by includes, sources and all other possible and impossible files that maybe could be removed from the official archive ?

Ok i ask once more does anyone else have problem with Vacuum and not be able to see what they write? I tried to type to people online and offline. I tried to change the background and fonts but get the same problem. I also get assign question everytime i start Vacuum from scratch. I dont have a work partition i named mine to Multimedia.

My friend Gigi has the same problem and we both are using sam460 aos4.1.6.

Sorry for being unresponsive :). ATM a lot of different things are happening in my life (I will spare you the boring details), so I am not 100% Amiga as I used to. Of course I would very much like to fix the remaining issues with Qt, so it can be FINALLY(...) released. But I have to do other things as well. Remember: Qt is actually quite a mouthfull, and sometimes searching for the answer in 500mb code can be quite a slow process. But I haven't given up (and probably never will) :).

Sorry for taking so long to deal with the Vacuum issues. I have been working a lot on internal structure in the various parts of Qt related to input and painting to fix some bad implementations. As a consequence of fixing basic issues, more specific issues arise in other places... (It's like the old cartoon: He hits his head and get a bump, he presses the bump down to get rid of it, another bump appears on the opposite side of his head.)

Could you try these two things:

1) Go to settings and select "Plugins" (I think it's called) and see if any of them are red/turned off/whatever. Maybe there is a linking problem, and the plugin responsible for the chat window painting is somehow disabled.

2) Ok, this is a bit difficult to do, so be careful: Get Ranger, if you don't already have it (on os4depot). Start vacuum. Start ranger. When the "assign work:" requester appears, go to Ranger->DOS->Processes and find the vacuum process. Click on it. Look under "name" to the right. Write down the 8 digit hex number in the parenthesis next to the name. Open a Shell. Write this:

> GrimReaper <insert the hex value here>

...and press enter. GR should appear. Send me stacktrace.

NOTE: When doing this, you will want to start Vacuum from the icon, NOT from shell. Otherwise the process is just called "Shell process x" and will be hard to find.

My main gripe at the moment is that any hyperlinks always open in OWB, rather than asking à la URLOpen.

Hmm... also, tooltips (HelpHints) are now causing the window they are associated with to de-activate. That's new. And annoying.

@Chris

Yes i think Alfkil is aware about the tooltips issue, interesting to note that a similar (if not the same) problem was already solved in the old 0.8.3 release, infact from the Qt readme:

fixed issue with tooltips deactivating main window (QSimpleSheet)

Tooltip problem now fixed. About URLs, I am not sure how to do it differently? Of course I could insert yet-another option in qtprefs. Or is there a more system compliant way?

The crash you are seeing in sharedmemory has to do with native dialogs, which are not recommended ;)

(a) Joel: Your screenshots look very weird... I am not sure what is going on here. Does this happen in all apps, or just in vacuum? Has anyone else experienced the same "flattening" of graphics layout?

Also I now know what is causing the assign work: problem and the missing graphics. It will take a while to fix (has to do with the build system), but at least I know.
