A) Amiga inc has some money.

B) They don't give a t*ss about AmigaOS.

Typical press release though, it doesn't really say much.

I had to read it twice before I realised it was a sports stadium.

I'm still not sure what Amigas involvement is, although it seems they are offering some sort of wireless server that can be accessed by phones and PDAs....

I guess more information will follow

Amiga [...] today is the third most recognized brand in Europe.
I'm very surprised the austrian telecom company is that strong, but why do they refer to a totally unrelated company which just happens to have the same name?
The other Amiga still known by some people in europe was very strong in the German Democratic Republic (not very surprising when you have a monopoly ), but it's nearly as insignificant as Amiga Inc. now.
In case they mean themself there is a sligt typo: third least recoginsed brand might be true, nobody, except for a few AmigaOS freaks, knows them in europe.

I find the whole thing mysterious indeed.

However, it is so strange, its meaning must be something simple, but I cannot figure.

The town only has 85,000 people, so the multi-millions must refer the the centre's building, the naming rights has to be something a lot smaller.

Maybe it only indicates that Kent for whatever reason has been chosen as a HQ and perhaps programming centre for Amiga Inc hence the goodwill gesture to the local community.

Generating a few local jobs and bringing in some people with money to spend would make any small town bend over backwards, which is how I read the naming thing.

What it does show, reading between the lines, is that Amiga Inc has got something underway in Kent, that is no small thing (well small by big business estimates, but big for a small town, just under city size).

Anything above 20 people coming in, generating about 7 or eight local jobs, would be significant I would suggest.

Speculation, but it is such a strange thing.

ps added later

It is an events centre!! With the Amiga name on it. Maybe there is some show and tell just around the corner.

Hmm, when you are putting it like that, it makes sense, especially the finance side of things.

Is that one of the new Amiga-balls from Amiga Inc.?
It looks alot like the AA (DE) ball but without the picture in the background.
It is more a chrome ball with red boxes.

I hope they can build a real Amiga technologie center out of it, that would
give them then sort of a reference for their next contracts.
I hope they install also some SAM's with OS4.

They pulled the news item. It was there this morning. Possibly people weren't supposed to read it yet (the official announcement hasn't been made).

I think it means just the opposite. If they didn't give a t*ss about AmigaOS I think we would have Hyperion shipping it on new hardware by now...

The news disappeared due to redesigning of the site. It's here now.

Yes, all those who have been calling for Amiga Inc. to redo the web site have gotten their wishes granted. Now the complaining about the new design can begin.

(The home of the San Jose Sharks ice hockey team, near where I live, is named the HP Pavilion. The naming rights were bought by Hewlett Packard.)

There have been hints all along that things were afoot. Perhaps I am a bit biased, but I take this as wonderful news.

Congratulations to Amiga Inc for making this deal, although I have very mixed feelings about it!

They seem to neglect Amigaos4 all the way and the target seem to be other markets and not OS4 enthusiasts. I can understand that from a business point, but it really sadens me.

I have to admit that I don't care at all about AmigaDE, AmigaAnywhere or some shopping centres or hocley teams.
I am only interested in OS4 and I guess many here feel the same.

I get the feeling that our group is only bothersome to them. We are nagging them all the time and following all actions they take and we know all their courtcases, deeds and all these things.
This is not good for them as a basis for future business.

So why don't they just get rid of us and give OS4 in the hands of Hyperion?

Sorry, only some random thoughts. :-/

One reason might be because years ago, Bill McEwen genuinely fell in love with the Amiga Community. As evidence, in spite of the treatment that he has received from much of the Amiga Community, he is still in there slugging away for Amiga. When the board asked him to come back he could have said no, but he's there. Since he had a choice, he is there because he wants to be there, and I think that needs to play a large part in people's assessment and treatment of him. It is surely an unpopular point to make, but without him, where would Amiga be? More than any other individual, he has kept Amiga alive, and it's time people began to realize that.

Theres mentions of AmigaOS on their new site. They just did a complete redesign and could have chosen to left it out, but they didnt.
