Hi all,

Running the eastern command from a shell, it's complaining about icon.library v52 needed... Doesn't it come with AOS4_Final ?

Oh... And it currently says I have version V51.14...

If v52 doesn't come from AOS4Final, where can I download it from (didn't find it on OS4Depot) ?

Thanks.

Interesting, I have 52.2 installed on my System, if you want it, ask.

that's what came with the final update:

version icon.library full
icon.library 52.2 (10.12.2006)

let me guess:
you did not install on a clean partition like suggested?
the final update was designed to be installed on a clean partition only... upgrading was not supported

byebye...

It was a brand new HDD... Though I also had a second HDD connected with an old backup of my system on it but surely that should not matter(?)...

// I just checked on the CD I used for the install and it says ?11/01/2006 at 11:08:42 for the DateTime of the icon.library in the Libs folder (same than the one installed)

Which version should the Kickstart and workbench be (I now have a doubt about the version I installed!:oops)?

mine says:
Kickstart version 51.31
Workbench version 51.4

I have OS4Final, and mine are Kickstart 52.2, Workbench 52.1.

Hopefully you'll get the right one this time. OS4 Final is Update 5 not 4, well... 6 if you count the mini update between 3 and 4 (GUI themes etc).

Thanks.
I downloaded it, burn it to a CD-R (NOT CDRW) using Nero Burning Room... And boot it on the A1...

After the UBoot screens... The whole screen went black !
Rebooted a few times, but the same results occurred !

I don't need to boot it from HDD first, do I ?

// I'm using a DVD Drive as my CD Drive is disconnected at the moment...

Definitely not.

You need to boot using the kickstart files on the CD and not some old kickstart that's on your harddrive or the installation won't work correctly.

Also you should install OS4 final on an empty harddrive partition. Easiest way is to boot from CD then quick format the system partition or delete all files (before that you might want to make a backup of the files on another partition, f.e. Work:Backup/OS4upd4/).

Booting the kickstart from CD is done from U-boot commandline using commands (IIRC):

setenv boot1 cdrom
boota

Is the CD drive being accessed (i.e. sound, drive light flashing)? If so you need to wait.

CD-Rom is a much slower medium than a harddrive so booting from the CD will take a while and during some of that time the screen will be black (between when kickstart has finished loading and the workbench screen showing up), or at least that's the way it was for me.

Thanks.

This morning I let it boot for 20 minutes ! And the CDRom Light was not flashing anymore though I could eject the CD...

I will try again tonight.

20 minutes is much too long. If it really takes that long then you have other problems.

Do you see the kickstart progress bar go from 0 to 100% before the screen goes black?

If you boot from your current install (or an older OS4 CD) and insert the OS4 final CD does it show up on Workbench and can you access it? I guess you could try doing this test to see if the CD was burned correctly as IIRC some people had problems with this (not me though).

It's indeed what I thought...

I currently have an older version (Update 4) loaded. And I can see the newly burned CD and browse it. No problem.

Tonight I will try the:
setenv boot1 cdrom
boota

Well, I was kind of expecting a Radeon :)

Some users have reported problems with certain Radeon cards and the use of interrupts. The cure has been to turn off the interrupts in the monitor driver tooltypes, but of course, you need to install it first :/

Search around here for items on this subject for more info

Actually it's not a problem to install final without booting from it's CD.

I installed it from a 'mounted' iso, far quicker :)

What you can do is boot normally, backup your existing boot partition, install OS4 final to ANY empty partition. quick format sys: then copy KICKSTART first then everything else from the final partition to the sys: partition.

doing it that way may seem weird but it keeps your A1 in an 'unusable state' for the shortest possible time, and if the worst happens, e.g. power cut... you should be able to load kickstart and use the boot with no startup option (hold down ctrl) and get to a shell to finish the copy process.

I had to do that for OS4final. The monitor driver on the CD is set to no interrupts, whereas after installation it is set to use interrupts. If it boots from the CD and works correctly, this is almost certainly the problem.
