Installing Lightwave
Just popping in

Good day,

I am new to Lightwave, having never installed it on a classic system.

I'm trying to install Lightwave on my little SAM460ex. I have the 4.3 Toaster CD and the 4.3 installer floppy adf image. The install script does not work. I tried using it under WinUAE, and the installer freezes after selecting components.

I want to know what I need from the CDROM and adf in order to run Lightwave. What programs and libraries do I need? What ASSIGNs do I need in user-startup?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Royce "Phantom Interrogative" Hunt

Hey there! I love running the old Amiga version(s) of LightWave on my AmigaOS4 machines and classics and under emulation and anywhere.

I made some notes here: http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/v ... _id=37379&forum=27#700345

I made a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRoeHaAS-MI

Elwood made a video of LW running on his Sam440, and this is what told me it was OK to buy into AmigaOS 4.x. :) .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e5zwPhMClk

The 4.3 Toaster CD and installer floppy are for installing all the Video Toaster software (including LightWave) onto a classic Amiga with the Toaster card installed. You can manually get all the objects/images/scenes/texture files from the CD, but the versions of the apps (LW Layout and Modeler) on this CD will require a Toaster card to be present to run. You will need to find standalone executables of these old apps for them to work on your Sam. These are not sold. EAB is a cool place to hang out. ;)

I purchased one of the last sets of Toaster 4.3 CDs from NewTek in recent years, and I also own two Toaster cards and a Flyer card. I guess they ran out of the software soon after I bought this version, which was a bit newer (but still quite old) than software that came with my vintage hardware.

Anyway, I have this software working pretty well on my X1000 and Sam440, so I am happy to help. There are a couple of glitches to step around, but the software is still quite enjoyable and easy to use. Good luck!
