Amiga 30th Anniversary Event - UK
Amigans Defender

Hi everyone.

As we all know, the 30th Anniversary of the Amiga Computer is next year.

It is a very important Anniversary so myself and my fellow members of Amiga North Thames are looking to organise one final "final" show in the UK.

What we are looking for is a venue to host the event.

Ideally we want to tack on to another event that is already occurring or a UK retro/computer museum who would have the space to welcome the Amiga community for one/two days.

Suggestions please.

Think London-ish if you want to make it an international show.

You would be very, very welcome to join us at Recursion 2015, on Saturday 4 July in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Central location, plenty of space, retro stuff galore, and absolutely free for all exhibitors and visitors. This year's speaker was Smon Goodwin.

How about the Computer Museum in Cambridge? They do host events there although I'm not sure how big it is.

It seems that our meeting will be at 25.7-26.7 2015 in Paderborn but it is not 100% sure at moment

Either that or live link the two shows.

Edited without the word "link" it made no sense.

I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up having lots of events all over the known Amiga world on that day.

One big virtual birthday party!

Best regards,

Niels

I sincerely hope we don't all do the anniversary on the same day. That would be silly. I am sure many an Amiga retailer/developer, would like to attend an event and try and make some money, plus what's the point in celebrating the Amiga Anniversary if no one will turn up at an event anyway?

Everyone, lets try and co-ordinate it, we obviously all can't do it on the same day, lets try and spread it out a bit.

Cheers

Hopefully the "Viva Amiga" Documentary Film (Kickstarted in 2011) is released soon (they recently promised mid November!), so as to remind people what the Amiga was (and maybe what it still is):

"This film is going to be a hit. It's not only a great story about this weird computer, it's a compelling, human story about technology. We're already getting applause for this film in rough form. It's coming out WAY better than I expected."

Fingers crossed!

It's quite a big space inside, unfortunately all the floor space is taken up with retro computers, consoles, arcade machines and a whole host of other cool stuff.

There are also no outside display possibilities, no space fr tents, display tables or anything like that.

Got to admit it is a cool place to visit, I was there earlier this year and spent a couple of hours just walking around.

Did you take some pictures?

What kind of arcade machines were there?

If it's a U.K. based event I would suggest Birmingham or surrounding area, where I don't know.

It can be reached from anywhere in the country being in the middle of it and it's well connected.

Usually when events are in London it's more difficult from people from the North and it's expensive to get there.

I think that ANT (Amiga North Thames) would find it much easier if the venue was south of Peterborough (i.e. not too far from north London).

The Daddy, as I have stated, I do not want to use the time energy and resources of the Amiga North Thames guys for an Amiga only event. It has to tie up with either a Museum or a Retro/computer event. When we have done amiga only stuff, the attendance has been low and atmosphere not as good as it could be. So, we want the buzz

They had a Sinclair weekend there a while back, which is why I suggested it. I thought they'd have a bit more (spare) space than that, although I'm not sure we need very much space, given past events. They may be able to move some of the exhibits? As I say I've not been there.

Yep got a few photos and looking back at them it may actually be a good place to hold it.

There are a couple of rooms set up like class rooms which could possibly be emptied of all the BBC micros in there and have some Amigas set up.

Car parking may be an issue but space inside probably good place.

@Mikey_C
Woud you like to check this place out?
