100% agree, it's a shame really.

Nice to see your back kas1e, did you have a well
deserved rest, or have you been busy beta
testing os4.1FE?

Ahh a ghost !

Funny to see you back just in this thread, yesterday I was linked to an old (and quite absurd) discussion between you and Minuous, I thought what a nonsense ..

Welcome back

Firstly I must apologise.
I am terrible for never reading the readme's and had no idea these proggies were all created by yourself.

To offer a slightly different opinion to ChrisH, I think it's a good idea to bundle smaller proggies together.
For larger programs, I would agree with ChrisH.

Of course you then have to decide what is/isn't a small program.

I'll definitely be supporting you when these are released on the new store.

Cheers

Even if a perpetual distribution license was granted, I think that it would generally be a good idea to respect the author's wishes.

I would have thought that goes without saying... although I get the feeling certain people might not see it that way :-/

I see no problem bundling *related* utilities together (e.g. system Dockies). But it just seems wierd to bundle unrelated functionality together. (I feel the same way about single programs that combine lots of unrelated functionality together, even if they are free.)

ChrisH : well teh price is so low that for the nearly same price you have a lot of utilities instead of having to pay for only one. Think of them a bonuses

Usually I donate where ever I can (though the last year was one without any donations from my side - due to temporary "AmigaOS inactivity"). I must admit that I personally don't mind whether it's a "donation" or a "shareware fee". I pay/donate for useful utilities since ages.

Nevertheless I can understand that "formalizing" this situation via a *store can/will prevent at least some people from spending some money. Classic "bpw" act ("behind pay wall")).

I believe a couple of users don't find the bundle feature a nice idea, but for me only SysMon or aTunes are a 5 euro-tag on their own. Either way I believe that those programs can be easily separated from the bundle as standalone tools.

To sum up, this is how I would separate the bundle of 14 tools.

Standalone programs:
* aTunes
* SysMon

Various WB tools:
* FastView
* FastHide
* FastCompress
* FlipPaper
* FastNote

Dockies:
* NetDock
* CPUDock
* RAMDock
* GFXDock

Internet-related:
* WebReplay
* AttachMail
* LittleBrother

But that's only my opinion.

Errr, uuhhhmmm, yeah......

1. You know, when you buy a magazine, you can't buy just the pages you're interested in. A compilation is a "grab bag" of small things, that would be a waste of time to brand every little item, piecemeal.

2. When buying said "mish-mash*", some you will find handy, and some you will sock away in a drawer (), possibly never to be seen again.

* Not insulting the CONTENT!

3. We've been spoiled by a plethora of free software in the "big pool" out there, where they are forced to give away their software because of the competition, you know, 12 or more people make the same computer program available to the public.

4. They (pc/mac market) are inundated by games, SO, the coders resort to huge amounts of in-game advertising... Something that is impractical and just won't happen with Amiga software with our user community size.

I'd rather have software without advertisements in it.... Advertising is now EVERYWHERE!!!

5. I've written code before, and at times it's very fun, and rewarding, therapeutic even... and it can also be insanity inducing drudgery as well, not FUN. That would be dealing with the very boring parts of bug hunting and digging through manuals, changing the user display over and over, etc. etc.

Why is it that, so to speak, "intangible", digital data sets development is treated as NOT being "something" that is produced and sold, just like any other products available at stores?

However, I am tremendously guilty of this, though.

For instance, the amount of magazines (and comics) that I have read in book stores and supermarkets, if I had to come up with all the money right now to cover it (over $20,000 Can.), well, let's just say that I would be carted off to prison, immediately.

I don't want to start a political debate, because it's really the ECONOMY that is dysfunctional, that is the problem. Something that we could talk about day and night for the next 5 years and nothing would come of it because "you can't fight city hall" no matter what conclusion we came to here....

The bottom line:
Seriously? Do we just expect hundreds upon thousands of FREE programs, because we're staying with the near death, Amiga computer, which we all know and love.... that may have even been sabotaged by unknown conspirators into the abyss???

We need to financially support the people that are making these AmigaOnes of ours useful and relevant, until at least it can catch on again and go mainstream.

I do NOT enjoy using computers, in ANY form, other than my, ANY, AMIGA that I have access to.

I've "used" an ipad.... that was a miserable experience, I'll have you know. It's a toy, as far as what a real and genuine computer IS and REPRESENTS... and to this day ONLY Amiga has "figured it out and provided" said need in nearly exactly as it should be, fr me.

I'm using DarkBASIC to code in right now, and if it weren't for the fact that it's about 75% AMOS like, I would NOT be able to write computer software AT ALL.... I would be "outside, looking in".

I can't believe how lucky I am that AMOS was made for a computer that I find being as close to perfect, as may be possible.... and that <1% I consider not to be, hey, it's a COMPUTER.... Shape it to suit your needs.

Amiga computer software programmers want some money for their time spent plying their magic?

Why is that a problem???

I am very grateful that the Amiga community exists.

It's sad, that there are 7,000,000,000+ people out there, and that they can't see what's going on around them.

I think that we are a group that believe in certain principles and are prepared to sacrifice 4 it.

I'm never going to lose that.

Prepared to go it until the last computer I have doesn't work any more and they're not being made any more either*.

There's no reason that we shouldn't reward those that are putting in effort, if we can't do it ourselves.
