FastHide prefs & usage

I have installed FastHide (finally was able to pay & downloadAmiStore software) and an icon is visible in AmiDock

I don't see how i can call and modify its prefs (other than editing its prefs .xml file directly). How can it be done?


When using it, it hides indeed all windows
- except those identified by their program name : not alls
works for "NotePad" , "Filer" windows are not shown
- o don't see however a list of the hidden windows, that could be made viwibl clicking on a corresponding line
I guess that's the gui not showing up.

First, thank you to have purchased it.

For FastHide, I have uninstalled my version, removed all APPDIR:FastHide*, rebooted and reinstalled AMIStore version, no problem.

Maybe that the ReadMe was not very clear, therefore :

1) Copy the whole FastHide drawer where you want (an installer is ready for the next zTools update)

2) Add FastHide executable in AmiDock (or Allkeys or FKey), you did it.

3) when you click on FastHide icon (or binded key) it hides the windows and call FastHide_GUI program that should be in the same drawer (could you verify, please ?)

4) The FastHide_GUI opened, you can edit Preferences by clicking on the first upper right button.

5) From here, you can add the excluded program that you want.
NotePad works but you have to add "Shell Process" for Filer, unfortunately the owner of Filer window seems to have this name.
You can see the owner names in the FastHide hidden windows list (names between [ ] )

If it stills don't work, could you send me a "DIR ALL" from you FastHide drawer, please ?

All looks fine, FastHide_GUI is well called, it try even to load the GUI pictures..

Could you start FastHide_GUI by double_clicking on it ? The executable is hidden.

Maybe that you don't have an uptodate NList.mcc ?

as i m using YAM development version 2.10 i guess this is the latest version.

However FastHide_GUI has no icon so i can't doubleclick on it

you should see it after to have selected "Show all" in the drawer, right ?

yes i can see it.
When i doubleclick on it i get a requester "execute a file" asking for arguments for the Command "FastHide_GUI"
when i enter nothing (or hit the execute button) & hit return, nothing happens
Same when i enter "FastHide as an argument.


Only way i have found till now to get access the _GUI is deleting my prefs .xml file altogether

Ah yes, maybe that I have understood.

According to your first post, you have

therefore, FastHide_GUI starts in a iconified way. You should have a little Monkey icon on your workbench. Double-click on it, it will make the GUI appears.
(edit : maybe that you will not see it, as i removed the .info file of FastHide_GUI, certainly a mistake...I have to check later)

Now, I don't know why it's set to TRUE (default FALSE), is it you that specify TRUE manually ?

This ICONIFY setting is settable in the Preference window (that is reachable when you have the GUI opens, of course ;) )

There is no monkey icon on my WB screen

I remember having chosen the iconify mode, but not if it was at installation or later playing with the prefs (i did delete the .xml file a couple of times to see if i could correct the behaviour ecplained)

I don't want to press you for fast action on FastHide, since you may very well have more urgent and important work todo.

I do have Amidock on the lower part of the Workbench screen and do use a smaller Workbench window leaving Amidock visible.
So in fact i can easily hide all other windows without FastHide.

However i guess feedback is what ervery coder wants, so here is some more :
after once more deleting the prefs file & unchecking the iconify GUI mode, FastHide worked as expected. :)

The "FastHide "window was there allowing to view listed windows by clicking on their line.
I got access to FastHide_GUI using the small settings icon of the FastHide window.
Playing around with FastHide is possible again.

Here are some observations that you may want to look at:
- add "Workbench" to the list of programs/windows not to be hidden the Fasthide sceen remains blank & the WB window is not shown,
- when going back to the Workbench screen (hitting Amdock's FastHide icon) the WB Window does not appear any more on the WB screen

Another strange sequence
- open FindMore window
- click on FastHide , it does not show up (not in the list "not to b hidden"
- click again: FindMore window is on the Workbench screen
- click again
put FindMore in the list of programs/windows not to be hidden &save
-click : FindMore NOT present anymore on the WB Screen
-click : FindMore window is not shown on the FastHide Screen & its window/progam is not present in FastGuide's winows list neither
remove FindMore from the list of programs/windows not to be hidden &save
-click FindMore window is shown again on the WB screen

I just tested, true, not a monkey icon but a default MUI icon (an opened window icon).
I have corrected that for the next update.
You can issue a "COPY FastHide.info FastHide_GUI.info"

By the way, ICONIFY is really FALSE by default, therefore deleting the FastHide.xml and restarting FastHide should work.

You mean that by default, the "Iconify" prefs cycle gadget is "ON" ?

WB is still NO hidden. As you can see on my previous screenshot, my wb backdrop is not hidden.

i understand that you don't need this program but could you make a screenshot of FastHide_GUI when your WB is hidden ?
(for me, "FastHide_GUI" is the FastHide window with the list of all hidden windows)

1) clicking on the show/hide Workbench "window" gadget (as im not in the backdrop mode )

2) should read: leaving unchecked

3) because you are in the backdrop mode for WB, i think
If i click on my WB window's resize gadget my screen is blank except Amidock (configured this way to be "backdropped"on my WB "screen")
To verifythe reported strangeness (Workbench "window" not reappearing after hitting FastHide twice )
- uncheck "Backdrop in "Workbench menu"
- use Amidock setttings that put Amicock as backdrop on WB screen (?)

As FindMore has the same problem, it may be something FastHide does not correctly for both

Right for Wb backdrop if "in background" is not checked in Workbench Title menu.
I see it as a Drawer, if "Hide drawer" is unchecked in FastHide settings, the backdrop is kept in screen.

No problem with FindMore in the 2 backdrops mode. It works as another program.
