Need help with OS4.1 Final Edition
Just popping in

See User information
Hi, I need help with the Installation of 4.1 Final Edition on a Sam440ep.
I formated my System: and boot from CD. I configured the locales and the patitions (changed from SF0 to SF2). After a message I have to reset the machine. Now I can't from CD anymore. The CD loads a few seconds and then I see the following message:

AOS4 FLB
FLB: no SLB found in any of the designated boot sources; returning to u-boot.
Press any key to continue

I tried the old OS4.1 CD (the first edition), but the same error.
Now I can't boot from CD or HDD and nothing works. Can anybody help me?

Heiko

What does the installation guide say about booting from uboot?

Have you tried typing MENU in uboot shell, do you see anything interesting?

I can't find any guide for booting from uboot :(

I tried "menu" but can't saw any interesting. Booting first from SATA DVD. And the CD loads a few seconds. But then comes the error message.

Update:
Now I get the following:

Parthenope... 0.91

No menu.lst or Kicklayout found!
Press a key to open U-Boot prompt!
Unknown return Code from secondary bootloader.
Press any key to continue

Sounds like order of the hard drive and CD drive may be reversed in your setup . I recall this problem has happened to a few people who reformatted their boot partition.

You can specify the drive type in Uboot using
setenv sii3114ide_conf=1002.

The "1002" code means:

1: HDD connected to port 0
0: nothing on port 1
0: nothing on port 2
2: a CD-ROM drive on port 3

I use a SATA HDD at J20 and two SATA DVD-ROM at J22 and J23.

So is sii3114ide_conf right, because IDE and not sata?
And when: is the right command for me setenv sii3114ide_conf 1023?

I tried both: 1002 and 1023. Both doesn't work. The same error. And after a reset the config is empty. I have to set it every time at booting. Tried to set it and boot with "boota" after that. But the same error. Any other idea?

for you it should be setenv sii3114ide_conf 1022

Then to save it to nvram
saveenv

The bootable DVD should be connected to J23

That doesn't help :( The problem is still the same: the CD loads for a few seconds and then comes the message:

Parthenope (ub2lb) version 0.91

No menu.lst or Kicklayout found!
Press a key to open U-Boot prompt!
Unknown return Code from secondary bootloader.
Press any key to continue

Or

AOS4 FLB
FLB: no SLB found in any of the designated boot sources; returning to u-boot.
Press any key to continue

sii3114ide_conf is set to 1022 and saved and the bootable DVD Rom is connected to J23.

By the way parthenope wont boot SFS/02 partitions so this may be an issue. You may need to connect the hard drive to the non bootable SATA port and install SLB after booting from the Install CD then reconnect to the original SATA port or reformat the boot partition and reinstall Amiga OS using an SFS/00 partition .

I tried it and get the same error. With the OS4.1 CD or the Update1 CD.

I am getting rusty.

Check your boot order in the uboot menu also .

boot1=s4siicdrom
boot2=s4sii

That sounds good. I tried the following: Put the HDD at J21 and the bootable DVD at J20. The HDD at J21 and the bootable DVD at J23. Testet both variants with Final Edition, Update 1 and the OS4.1 CD. Nothing happens. The same error.
I tested it without my HDD and get the same error, too!

My boot order is:

boot1=s4siicdrom
boot2=s4sii

Should I change the sii3114ide_conf when I switch the HDD and DVD?

Yes otherwise it wont match up with the hardware.

However you would be be better off deleting it, and letting uboot workout which drive is what for itself.

Did you make a backup of your SYS: before formatting ?

MY bootable HDD drive is on unit 0 and my CDRom is on unit 3 I'm not sure which jumpers that corresponds to.

To avoid confusion remove the second optival drive you refered too.. then try booting again.

I deleted the sii3114_conf and used only 1 DVD Rom. And the CD loads :D
I've changed changed the filesystem to SF0 and after a reset the CD runs again :D Wow! You're great! Thank you very much. I hope that I can use the second DVD after installing OS4.1!

Yes, I have a complete backup of my sys: partition on an other partition :)

Many thanks to Spectre660, too :)

That's a bit risky... if you mess-up with Media Toolbox then you might loose everything. Best to store a backup on a USB harddrive (or memory stick if large enough). Ideally the USB drive would be formatted in an Amiga format (rather than FAT32).

I wonder how many people still have these old .conf variables un Uboot. Maybe os4 installation should delete them.

I know it. I made this backup only for the Final Edition a few minutes before. On an external HDD I have another backup. But not very up to date ;)

Use BackUp (by Deniil715), then you can update your old backup in a few minutes! (i.e. Incrementally, rather than copying everything from scratch.)
