Hi folks

Just putting together the latest update to MindSpace - svg drawing thingy for OS4.

Any last minute bugs need squishing or features adding?

Yeh, me! :)

MindSpace .97a - registered:

tools > "i" or diagram properties
Of the Info, Page, and Object tabs, the Object Tab doesn't work:
Line color, line weight, font, and Label Colors don't accept changes.

tools >"magnifier"
zoom out and zoom in boundries get lost and memory get eaten up.

The "Object" tab on the diagram properties dialogue (RA+?) is for setting default values for new objects to be created, whereas the Object properties dialogue (RA+I) is for changing the currently selected objects.
Try this:Start with a blank diagram. Open the diagram properties, change the fill colour on the object tab and hit apply. Now add a shape to the diagram. Is it filled in with the new colour? Now use the Object properties to change it to something different.
If this doesn't work, drop me an email.

Do you mean the (by default black) line/border around the shapes or the blue "selected object" highlight?
By default the black borders are 10 units (1mm) thick, which is reasonable on most levels of magnification here. Thinner borders don't really scale well when zoomed really far out as I have to draw at least 1 pixel. Nearly time to rewrite the drawing engine...

How much memory are you using? Is it related to zoom in/out or other operations as well?

Thanks for bringing up these points, Snuffy.

Yeh, that woyks! It's seems that the term "Object" was ambiguous to me. I thought it applied to whole "mso", but it means an 'object' selected in the current 'mso'.

Woyks fine!

Sorry it's ambiguous. "mso" stands for MindSpace Object which is what I call the shapes/objects on the diagram. The Diagram properties dialogue changes the default properties for yet-to-be created objects, whereas the Object dialogue changes properties of any currently selected object.

The current docs are woefully out of date and will be updated before the final 1.0 release (July?). There is a little tutorial on OS4depot and one in the last issue of Total Amiga.

Another preview release of MindSpace 2 can be downloaded here. Again, it's not a fully featured version, yet, but please feel free to play around with the interface and report any bugs, suggested improvements, features etc.

From the readme:
MindSpace 2 Version 0.01d : 16/8/2014
---------------------------------------------------

Requirements: OS4.1. In addition, libpng.so, libcairo.so and libfreetype.so.17 needs to be in SOBJS:

MindSpace 2 is a complete rewrite of the original MindSpace UML/Diagram/Vector Drawing thingy written for Amiga OS4.
The long term plan is to improve, refine and extend the features of the original program.

Version 0.01d allows the user to create multiple diagrams with multiple pages.
Multiple windows/views of each diagram can be opened, at different magnifications and viewing different pages.
Opening multiple windows uses a lot of graphics memory - SAM440 users may want to limit the number of windows in use or switch off compositing

At the moment, only the rectangle tool can be used to draw objects on the page (resize handles not yet added).
Objects can be raised/lowered, moved and resized using the toolbar.

Rendering uses Cairo, but is quite slow at the moment.
There is as of yet no hardware acceleration or optimisation eg the whole bitmap is redrawn, not just damaged areas.

I quick tested MindSpace2.

1) I'm not able to select a different form than rectangle. If I select "Circle" for example, the circle button is well selected but it's always rectangles that are drawed.

2) and every time a rectangle is drawed, it lags for around 2 seconds (x1000/RadeonHD6670)

It's the first time that I test MindSpace therefore I certainly made a mistake...but it looks very nice !

edit : ooops, sorry, I read carefuly your post

"At the moment, only the rectangle tool can be used"
and
"Rendering uses Cairo, but is quite slow at the moment. "

therefore, just keep "it looks very nice" from my post

Nice to see you are still/again developing this fine program!

Looking forward to the new version getting more features implemented.

Hope the final version will have support for running on WB as well as on its own screen.

Otherwise it's looking good. Yes, slow rendering of objects, even on X1000. Hopefully optimization will be able to make the speed a bit better while waiting for hardware acceleration.

Do objects have to be rendered filled? I assume that is part of what takes time ATM.

Best regards,

Niels

MindSpace 2 v0.02

Another little work-in-progress update to MindSpace 2 (vector drawing thingy - full version of original MindSpace here).

This WIP version is still a long way from complete and useable, but please feel free to have a play, make comments and suggestions etc..

Read the readme to see requirements, what is done and what is not...

Well, I installed the version on OS4depot and it doesn't open because it can't find libfreetype.so.17 which I confirm I don't have on FE.
Where can this be found? You should mention it in the doc file (I checked).

(Note: I have libpng12.so mentioned in the readme)
