IPetition - Amiga inc vs Hyperion Entertainment - Status Update.

Hi All

Many thanks for all of you who have taken part, we have passed the 500 signitures barrier. Great Result!

Now, lets go for the biggie, lets get 1000 signitures. I aim to print out and post (snail mail) the petition to both parties.
So please continue to, spread the word in every language and to anyone who you know is an Amiga fan. Get them signitures going!

Btw, does anyone here know if it would be worth sending a copy to the court where the case is being heard? would it make any real difference? (just a thought)

There shouldn't be any, I have been keeping a watchful eye on them and removing any that were inappropiate.

Hey Mikey!!:

You might want to warn people that iPetitions defaults to signing you up for a $10 donation to them for using their service when you sign up.

On AwebPPC, at least, this never goes anywhere because something in the Javascript eats up all your memory (I went from 360+MB free to under 60MB in a couple of seconds) when it tries to process the donation page.

You don't pay anything if you don't want to, its purely optional, use a decent web browser and you'll see.

And it really pains me to say it, Amiga browsers aren't decent - yet!

Well done for doing the petition and fingers crossed that it will do some good as we could do with a dose of sanity at the moment. I'm not sure sending a copy of the petition to the court would help but it certainly wouldn't hurt, so I would be inclined to do it.

I would suggest not to send anything to the court.

If I were the judge, I'd see it as at best an unprofessional move, at worst a sneaky attempt to influence the court decision by means which are not supposed to do so.

A judge is supposed to rule based on the impression of the case resulting from its presentation by the lawyers of the two parties, who in turn use witnesses and evidence to aid their presentation.

The only reasonable way such a petition could be presented to the court/judge would be if one or both of the lawyers would incorporate it as evidence.

AFAIK -- and IANAL (nor a judge)

Agreed - it would only make us (the Kommunity) appear as naive as those that signed it.

Nothing wrong with the petition as it serves to let Amiga Inc and Hyperion know the feelings of their potential customers.

Mikey_C's initative might not accomplish anything but there is no harm in trying , so long as it doesnt get sent to the judge.

Whats wrong with sending the petition to the judge? It wont sway the judges decission but might further demonstrate to Amiga Inc and Hyperion that the community want them to work together.

Seriously, I would send it, it wont sway the judge but if there is no out of court settlement the judge might point to the petition to show both companies that the community want them to work together.

I am firmly on Hyperion's side of this, as Amiga Inc., if they don't work with them equitably, they have nothing at all. (What a cheap move on Amiga Inc.'s part to do. I'm with Atheist and nbache here, don't send it to the court.

You don't know how the guy "ticks", so he might see it as
offending to get a letter from people which vae nothing to
do with the trial (lawyer-wise) and may take it as a
"Wanna bribe me?" situation.

Don't. It has no legal reference. To compel Amiga Inc. to shape-up, the community might try using a Class Action lawsuit.

Tbh i'd even throw money in a bounty if it were clear how
much would be needed, and if it were "secured" that we
actually get it, to "buy back" OS4.
